Constant Nulling?

A

Guest
Any movement of the 10 inch coil the threshold nulls out. When I use the SR8 coil it doesn't null as bad. Some have posted not to worry about the nulling but I feel like I may be missing out.
I have noticed that the curser won't change untill the threshold comes back so evertime I get a high flute sound I have to stop moving the coil next to the aproximate location and try and see where the curser hits at. I also get a lot of high flut sounds with the curser in the lower right corner, alawys trash when I dig these items.
I have tried a more negative Iron mask setting and the threshold does come back some but then the constant hits is hard to figure out.
Any ideas?
My settings are
Advanced-Smart screen
IM-9
Coins checked
Volume 10
Gain 7
Variability 9
Limits 10
Ferrous sounds
Fast recovery
Responce Normal
Noise 5
Normaly hunt in Semi Auto at 28-30
Thanks, DAN(KC)

I just got mine but I would try running in Ferrous like you have and in Iron Mask at -16 so you can hear the iron. By hearing the iron it will let you know when to slow down. I run my CZ5 with zero disc like that so I can hear the iron and it helps with false signals.
I would set the Variability a 10 max.
I won't know how well this works till spring.

Dan, Are you is Kansas City? I tried your email but it bounced back. Would like to make contact and share Explorer new user syndrome stories.

Dan, first off you say you are using channel 5. Is the exp. you are using an xs or s model? If it is the xs, set sens at 18 to 20 manual,-12 to -14 iron mask, lower gain to 5, do a noise cancel and let the machine find the least noisy channel for you. Then when swinging the coil if you get a lot of nulling, lower the sensativity 1 or 2 numbers or use auto sens. Recovery fast and if you still get constant nulling open the IM to -16. This is so the iron will come thru w/low tones. Also slow the sweep speed down to about 1 foot per second. When you get a high tone lift the coil up over the target so the threshold will come back and the cursor can move. Sounds to be a very heavy iron infested area you are hunting. But also as other people have said the good hits will still come thru even in a null. I hope I haven't confused you to bad <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)"> Hope this helps a little.

I found a 1918 P Wheat last nite in an area that was a constant null. It was 6 - 8 inches deep. Surprised me!! Nice hi flute tone. I was hunting in auto sens 32 deep gain 8.
