After reading several articles and posts on line i, am surprised to find that my mxt will not find deep silver coins very well,i have tried another brand detector from Dennis at metaldetectors.com, it is a expensive detector, however i found a 1925 merc the day i tried it. Am i off base or am i bieng led astray by conflicting opinions, i haven't found silver for quite some time. Thanks jim

Did you find the Merc in the same area that you have hunted before with the MXT or a different location. There are so many variables that go into finding coins that weren't found before and it rarely has to do with the depth capabilities of the detector, at least around here. Location is the biggest factor when it comes to finding silver coins. If you are not getting your coil over the silver you definitely are not going to find one. Was the Merc really deep or could it have just been masked by another metallic object. I have had Minelab machines, Etrac and Xterra's , and I had a XP Deus and I don't think that I have ever found a coin that my MXT would not have found depth wise. Other things like frequency of the detector, coil angle, not overlapping your swings and other improper swing techniques can lead to missing coins. I found a silver coin recently with my MXT that I had missed with my other more expensive detector on two or three different hunts. I get very good depth with my MXT in my dirt. I'm not saying it will do the same in your soil but it will give a good tone and ID on a 10" silver dime and 12" quarter in our 2 year old test garden. My other machines would not do any better and some not as good.

Number 1, your coil has to be over it to find it. I think maybe you should check your settings and try again. Silver doesn't just happen to appear when using another detector. Like I said, "Your coil has to be over it to find it".

Thanks for the replies ,the dime was four inches down on a sandy beach, I just felt that i could have been missing silver everywhere for quite sometime, maybe my shrink is right,i may be certifiable Thanks again JIM

I tell you what, no matter what rig you run...to be really successful, a person has to have a great deal of CONFIDENCE in it...sometimes an initial great find right out of the box is all it takes to build confidence...

Theres a guy here I hunt against who runs a superlow end piece of junk he got at a garage sale for $20....that guy finds more stuff than most have a right to! ...he's at every sidewalk tearout before everybody else...every festival teardown, on the beach after a big weekend...you know the drill...he's an amazing hunter...and he's made me a better hunter by trying to pattern his madness!

I can assure you the MXT would have found the four inch if you swung your coil over it. You have a good machine and it will find silver if you are in the right location and get your coil over it.

oh heck yea it will find silver... deep too. its all in the settings-- soil conditions etc.... proper set up proper use and get the coil over it. i used exclusively Tesoro before i became a Whites MXT user. the original Series E tracker. i had to get used to 1) ID machine, mine were beep and dig ---2) slower sweep speed-- Tesoro has a faster speed (12 yrs of use doing that) 3) proper GROUND BALANCE.. mine were presets or ten turns

get the coil over it...
