Considering Getting A Garrett

New member
Not sure I understand the difference between the GTI 1500 and the GTI 2500 except the price. Which would be best for the coin shooter (old coins)? I think the 2500 is 4.6 pounds; is the 1500 much lighter? What do you guys use and why?

The 1500 is lighter and was designed specifically for coinshooting and is one of the best coin magnets on the market, with deadly pinpointing. The 2500 has a few more features including true all metal with manual or automatic balancing, but unless you plan on digging halfway to China for your coins the 1500 will serve you well.

I've owned the 1500 and now the 2500 both great detectors. The 1500 will find all the coins you need. It's a great coin detector. The 1500 has all the same programs like coin's,relic's,beach ...Ect as the 2500. The only big difference is the true all metal mode which you would not use alot anyway. Running the 2500 in the coin's mode and the 1500 in the coin's mode will run the same in depth Ect.

I no very little about the 1500 or the 2500, however I have a GTP 1350 and I have found over 2000 coins in two years, many Civil War relics/bullets, and lots of jewelry.

It has the Imaging, feature exclusively to Garrett will save you a lot of time by leaving a lot of junk in the ground. The coin ID is quite accurate and there are a number of different types f coils available to help with your searching environment.

I bought an Ace 250 at the beginning of the summer and have used it for roughly 200 hours. Every hour was a joy, found tons of jewelry and coins, not many silver coins. I researched both the 1500 and 2500 detectors and ordered a 2500 this morning mostly because of the current package all retailers are offering it with. 1500 is 680 bucks and the 2500 is 935 bucks. I wanted the larger 12.5 inch imaging search coil on either machine which sells for about 210 bucks. Also get a bag and headphones which I already have but could always use another of each. Also figured if I went with the 1500 I would be second guessing myself forever. All in all I call the price a wash, at least in my case because I was going to get the big coil for either.

If you read this forum back several months you will find a lot more information about almost all model Garrett detectors. The men and women who post here are all first rate and have given me loads of great advice and interesting tips.

I chose the retailer because it was the closest to my house and I'll get it sooner. I bought my ACE 250 from a company in Arizona and it took 10 days to arrive UPS Ground. I just checked the status of my 2500 at UPS.com and it's en route to me. Maybe even tomorrow.

I chose this time to buy because I guess I have about 2 months of hunting time left in the year and I want some time to get on board with my new rig. I will probably need to take a few weeks in January off to visit someplace warm and get a metal detecting fix.

I'm sure I will be posting my initial thoughts about the 2500GTI starting Friday or Saturday.

Final thought. I have already been offered 150 bucks for my Ace 250. I am not selling it.

Good luck and I am interested to hear what you decide to do.

Chris
