Considering a White's CM GT, but coil questions

Hello,

I am new to this forum. I have been doing a lot of research and my budget is $400 tops. So I have narrowed my choice to either the Fisher F4 or the White's GT. I live in Oregon and we have a good amount of minerals in the soil so I feel that Ground Balance is going to be important. My question/concern is the coils that come with both. So the Whites comes with a Concentric Coil, and the Fisher F4 comes with a nice 11" DD type coil. As a newbie, I have researched to the point of ultimate confusion on the coil types. I am leaning towards the Whites due to features and the aesthetics of the machine, but will the concentric coil be troublesome in Oregon soil, Pacific beach hunting or relic hunting in somewhat trashy areas? I hate that it comes down to coils, but a DD coil is a lot of money and since the Fisher comes with it already it makes it somewhat compelling.

Please help a newbie out. I have been a White's fan for years. I grew up in Sweet Home, OR. My family knows the White family so I want to make the White's work for me. :(

Hi Chris,

Welcome to the forum. I hope you are allowed to use the Search feature on this forum. If so, run a search for a fellow named Monte. He has a huge background in this hobby. And, he lives in and hunts your state, Oregon. I suspect he can answer all your questions in detail.

Good luck
Bob

Excellent! Thanks for the tip! I am excited to get going. I have an old Coinmaster 300 my Mom gave me in the 80's. My mother used to work at White's when we lived in Sweet Home and soldered boards! Small world eh! That is why I really hope I can make the White's work for me.

I would rather use the white's 950 concentric coil over the 11" DD in trashy areas. The DD coils work well in high mineralization but often the concentric coils work better on saltwater beaches. One example is the White's Eclipse 950 concentric usually works better than the White's D2 double D coil on our west coast beaches. I think you'd be very happy with the Coinmaster GT.
