Consider the challenge

Have you ever considered the challenge to designing the "perfect" detector? We want it to be sensitive to small targets at depth, but discriminate bird shot, small foil etc. It should have an extremely accurate TID and depth indication to its maximum depth, be able to uncover masked targets and be deep enough that we can brag that "mine is better than yours". It should be light enough and well balanced so one can swing it for hours, but built like a tank for endurance and have a complete compliment of coils. It should be able to ignore iron, unless iron relics are desired, then it should sound off loudly, even at depth. Of course battery life should be long and pinpointing surgically close. Fully water proof would be nice. Electrical interference should be ignored and the higher end models should be equipped to do the actual digging. Oh, also, the cost should be affordable. The first manufacturer to build this model will completely corner the market in my opinion.

You forgot to add accurate gold ID, the moon and world peace. :biggrin:

We can put those features on the upgrade lol.

I'm thinking it should have a full color screen of what it looks like subsurface; like Superman's vision.
And MAYBE with programmable alerts like:
1) gold
2) silver
3) certain desired coin dates
4) hi chrome tourmalines and such
5) {insert your fav target here}

Hi, well since they been building and designing metal detectors for over 100 years,not much has changed.....Oh I forgot the price has changed....There's hardly been any advances in the technology since the 80's....I would be happy if they could build one that could accurately ID a target down to 8" deep......JJ

I will second Larry's statement. When a manufacturer comes out with a detector that can tell the difference between gold and aluminum, then the game is over.
