So it seems as I get used to this Conquistador umax the more I think I know, the more it proves me wrong...

Soooooooo

I bow humbly before you...the masters of Tesoro and come to you in an effort to be blessed by some of your vast knowledge of this machine.

or any that hunt just like it.

Feel free to just run off at the fingers and type whatever...I'm listening and waiting patiently.

Thank ya mucho

Hi Gary

There are some detectorists that thumb the Disc. knob up to see where a target drops out in conductivity, and then decide whether they want to dig or not. Since your detector has no meter, and basically a beep and dig detector, you have to find out for yourself how much you want to dig. Location of the search plays a big part in your decision to dig every signal or not, say for instance you are at the beach, where there could be a possibility for gold jewelery, and digging is easy with a sand scoop, I would dig everything that beeped. I would also run minimum disc at the beach also. By raising your coil while still slowly swinging it over the target, and seeing at what height the coil is in the air above the target and signal drops out, will give you an idea on how deep the target is. I don't have a Conquistador, but have a few non-metered Tesoros. Just swing the coil close to the ground in a moderate to slow sweep speed, once you get a good beep, stop and try to isolate the the signal by using short sweeps (a couple of inches) , with the quick responce of the Tesoro you can pinpoint the target quite easily. The fella that I bought my Conquistador from had marked the disc. where nickles drop out, tabs drop out, zinc pennies, and copper pennies. The marks are quite accurate and by thumbing the disc. i can tell with a high degree of success as to whether a target is desirable or not. Almost as good as a tid machine. With practice one can hear a crackle in the nickle range that usually turns out to be an aluminum tab. The more I use it, the better i get at recognizing the differences in the signals. I've also had very good results with it in several competition hunts due to its quick response and the use of the frequency switch when around machines that cross talk. All in all, I like it a lot.

Thanks for the help guys...

I've been out with it quite a bit and am getting to know it a bit better...one thing that seems to eat my lunch every time is chopped up aluminum cans (SIGH) One thing that did kinda blow my mind today was I got a good signal...dug down about 4 inches and say a very rusty bolt sticking out of the side of the hole...I thought...BLAH...okay so that's what that was...I tossed the bolt in my pouch and as always...rescanned the hole and got another signal..I looked down and not 2 inches away from where the bolt was...was a penny.
Now understand this isn't one of the small coils, this is the 9x8 stock coil....I smiled and tossed it in with the rest.

Also...I do run it with as little disc as possible...usually right above foil. Today I managed to get two wheats from the 20's today...a 24 and a 25...the 25 has a small 2...I don't have a coin book so if anyone knows if it's a good one let me know.
So in less than a week I've gotten one ring....other junk jewelry and about $12.00 in coins. I'm already into my second battery.

If this thing would have TID it would be awesome.

If you can think of anything else..please...lay it on me.

Glad you're liking it. I use the 7" concentric coil on mine quite a bit, but the 9X8 works well in most places. For that matter, i use the 7" pretty often on my DeLeon or SSumax as well and have been surprised at how little depth is lost with the 5.75" concentric, also.
