Yesterday, Richard & Woody had all the luck. I hunted relentlessly and hard all day but this was there day. Of course, we all know everybody has there day so it never bothers me to watch friends find good relics. Woody found a nice 1740 Spanish Coin and Richard found a gorgeous 1842 New Orleans Half Dime & an 1821 Bust Coin. Congratulations guys, real nice finds. The pics are from the site but my cheap camera would not zoom in enough. I need to get a better camera for pics in the field.

What Woody found there is a Philip V "new plate" coin minted in Spain. New plate refers to the 20% reduction in the value of reals minted in Spain in relation to the reales minted in colonial Spanish America. This variety of coin was frequently called a "cross" real in the British colonies to distinguish it from the more valuable "pillar" real minted in the Americas.

Hispaniarium Rex means "King of Spain"

That's a picture of the reverse side of the coin. Can you post a pic of the obverse side, which shows the denomination, mint mark and the assayer's initials?

Nice Find!!!
