Congrats BT

BT,

I loved your article on using the XT-70 on the gold fields in the Australia Gold Gem and Treasure magazine. It had me wanting to take my XT-70 out for a spin with the 5x10 HF coil which I did on Sunday (first time out since breaking my tibia in August and spent lots of time digging some deep holes :). That little coil is impressive as in prospecting mode and out-depths the all metal mode by more than a few inches.

I have a query though...in the article, are you using the 10" HF or 5x10" HF coil? How do you compare the two? I am thinking of adding the 10" HF to my arsenal since I do the beach more often than not and the extra coil coverage would be nice.

cheers...Keith

G,day Keith. I missed this post the other day somehow. Sorry to hear you busted a bone but good to hear its mended. I hate the wait when you do something like that.
In the article I was using the 10 x 5 18.75khz coil. Yeah that place was fantastic. Even though the gold was all small there was some really top little species among them. I love chasing the wierd stuff that others dont bother with.
Can you believe I got myself a 10" round 18.75khz just when I broke my damn toe and was going to run back over the last good spot I found gold. Testing it out though shows it has still got the ton of sensitivity that the elliptical has and goes a little deeper as well.
The elliptical has more sensitivity at its front and rear thirds of the coil, a little more than the round meaning that the elliptical is the clean up coil for those little bits but you will want to overlap your sweep by just the 1/3 of the coil or move forward by 1/3 of the coil if you know what I mean. I have no doubt that the 10" round will find me more gold at my old haunts and its driving me nuts waiting to get out. Each night I go into my detector room, look at the new coil, look at my taped up toe and just nod my head.
Good luck.

Hahahaha thats funny! Well maybe not......dont worry about me mate my humour stinks lol!
Cheers!

Hi BT,

Broken any bone is no fun, for sure. Know how you feel...I had my newly purchased used Explorer II + WOT coil sitting here and staring at me for 5 or so months while my tibia mended. I am looking forward to taking it for a test drive tomorrow...the XT-70 is getting a bit of a rest since I really want to test out the WOT coil. I really think a 12+" coil would be a world beater on a XT-70 but that'll be the day...

cheers...Keith

G,day Brissietex and Nugget.
I have been pretty well amazed at the performance of the 70 on gold since I started using for that purpose. I have the 10" round dd 18.75khz just sitting there waiting to be used and from all I have seen in my own tests whilst waiting it will be a winner.
A 12 could bhe even better.
BT = Bad Toe. More like BT + Tequila + playing chasey with his Staffy after 4 shots = Bad Toe.
