Well used the ctx about 3 times and only digging old nails and junk no old coins yet what am i doing wrong any advice on a good program to start with sure its just a learning curve like i had on etrac.

Use the coins mode and set the sensitivity to auto. Try sweeping over the target from different directions to make sure it sounds good from all angles. Usually junk targets will give a splatter effect on the display or have a large pattern and the numbers will jump more than with a good target. A coin will usually have a nice tight pattern on the display and sound good from all angles unless it's really deep or next to another target such as iron. Place some coins on the ground and sweep over them as you raise the coil so you can recognize the sound of a good target and observe the display also. Don't get discouraged, it's normal to dig junk while learning a new detector.

Yes we all were confused a bit. It's perfectly normal. Just take your time, be patient, and then one day it will all click. Check out the Resource Center as well ad the Minelab Approved videos. There is a lot of great info there.

Yeah just run in a coin pattern for a bit until you start to get the hang of it, you'll get it

I agree with Tones, run it in a stock coin pattern for a while. SLOW DOWN! Really really slow! I use the small coil and take 3 to 5 seconds to go from left to right and then another to get back left. 1. Listen to the tones first, 2. then check the location of the target icon on the screen and 3. put faith in the numbers displayed on pin point, not necessarily during the sweep. If the tone is splotchy and the target icon is splotchy and weak, odds are it is not a good target to dig.
