Confused about a X-Terra coil

I was wanting to purchase a new 18kHz coil for my mom's X-Terra 70. When I bought her the X-Terra package about 3 years ago it came bundled with the stock 7.5kHz (9" ?) and the 5x10 DD 18kHz coil. About two years ago I bought her the 6" DD 18 kHz coil that she really loves for detecting in New Mexico but it does not have enough coverage on the beach when she visits me in Galveston. I thought there was a 10.5" DD 18kHz coil that was water proof that I could get her for Christmas but I cannot find it.

Can a X-Terra user help me with any suggestions? I did see something about a 15" coil but I am afraid that this might be too much for my 83 year old mom to swing all day long (and she swings her X-Terra ALL DAY LONG). She says that MD is what keeps her young. Thanks in advance.

Only the 6" and 9" coils are waterproof, all the others are water resistant.

I would like to see Minelab make a 11.5 DD (7kHz and 18.75kHz) that's waterproof and also the 10X5 too, as these would be great to use in the water as well as on land.

I'd also like to see a 10X5 7kHz DD coil and be able to buy that too.

Thanks Landstar. That is good to know. She finds a bunch of rings in NM and almost always picks up a few every Christmas when she comes down for the holiday. I am sure that she will not intentionally work in the water but she gets so intent sometimes she might catch an errant wave so I thought I would check. It looks like the Mine-lab 10" (18.75kHz) DD Search Coil (X-Terra Series) is the best alternative to using her 6" 18.75kHz coil then. Would this be the best option for her next coil? Does the 18.75 kHz work well on clad as well?

If what you are concerned about is an errant wave, maybe just silicone her connections on the 5x10 at the coil housing and the strain relief and the strain relief and cable. There is a 9" CC HF that is water resistant. The 10.5 DD coils are quite a bit heavier than the 5x10. Maybe she is strong enough that that makes no real diff.

I was thinking that I would mount the 10"coil backwards so it would seem lighter to her and not alter her swing to much. Does this affect the performance of the coil?

No

Get her Doc's swingy thing and she can swing the 10.5 DD HF coil all day long. With the swingy thing in place she will think she is swing the 6" DD HF coil. TomB

Digger (Randy) has said in other posts, that a dab of silicone sealant where the cable goes into the coil, along with a bead sealing the coil cover to the coil, will make the 10.5 coil water resistant enough for "the errant wave".

I'd do it to be safe.

I was going to order the 10.5 inch 18.75 kHz coil but can only find a 10 inch coil for the Minelab X-terra. Is there a 10.5 " coil?

The 10" and the 10.5" are the same coil(MF of MH). All that matters...is how lazy the person posting the message was.(I'm guilty of posting a 10.5" as a 10".)
