Confersation I Had with Minelab

A couple of weeks ago I had called in to minelab to ask them a question.I wanted to know how much the lower nuts and bolts would cost me.The lady at the front desk told me over the phone,6.00 plus 15.00.Plus there
would be a processing fee which is 15.00.Then I told her that I would like to speak with one of there techs.and she told me we can not let you speak to one that they are to busy. But I had explained to her it woudl only take
5 mins.she told megood bye and hung up on me.You know that is not a very good way to run a bussines especially when we as people that buy there detectors and acces..I just thought that was very unproffessional the
way they treated me.If that is the way minelab is going to treat us the public and or customer then why should we take care of them. It's pretty sad that when you call a company and need some help with a problem and
can't get any help why buy ther products. What we shoul do is boycott them,it's not like we need them, they need us.I don,t know about the rest of you people out there if you have had any problems with minelab doing you
like this but we have got to stick together. These detector company's stick together. And the money they charge for these detector's is rediculous, you are always hearing about how detector,s are breaking and falling
apart and chageing big prices for them. Then when you need help from them you can,t get any.Look at Fisher Detector's they use to be made good and when you called in to ask them a question someone would help you
now look at what kind of detector's there making. They are cheap and when you get them there falling apart or not working, then your windding up sending them in to be fixed, they need to take there time and make sure
they work right before they pack them up.Minelab is doing the same thing ther all making junk and they dont care any about us.Some day we won't have to worry about where we are going to detect the detector company's
are going to take care of that for us with the junk there making for us.All i'm asking money is hard to make now a days dont you feel that if we are going to have a hobby that the company's putting out these detecror's
could do a little better on there end of the deal....P.S I just wanted you to know what happen to me lets stick together and demand a better product from these company's and make it hurt in there pocket.

That's strange,
I had good communications with Becky at Minelab she was prompt and polite. Besides I think their products are sweet.
I'd cut them some slack, everyone has a bad day now and then, and wouldn't give up on them just yet.

Most manufactuers are financially stressed to the max, and it's their employees that are taking the brunt of it.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. Although I had a number of problems with an X-terra a few years back, and they misunderstood my written faults with the machine, I found them to be quite helpful over the phone. After few send backs, the problems were resolved with no further issues.

I e-mailed Minelab a couple mths ago to ask if a mouse nibbling on the coil would cause internal damage. I explained the teeth marks were 16th of an inch or less in depth. I promptly received a response and was relieved to know the wires are set deeper into the coil and if the plastic wasn't penitrated, then all should be well, and it is !! So maybe yours is an isolated incedent, in these troubling financial times nobody in their right mind would intentionally want to lose customers. I would say not to be so quick to right them off, to err is human. Ron

Sorry to hear they are not that friendly. I drilled out my coil on my 10 inch excal a little larger in 10 seconds and installed a larger bolt and nut from Lowes Plumbing department. It was a nylon toilet seat bolt.

An idea/Suggestion: What about starting a "Service Tracker Forum"? What is wrong with it? What day did you mail it? How much did it cost? How long did it take to get it back? Was the problem resolved? It could be for all detectors. What do you think????

Folks,

A bud of mine is using an Xterra 50 (out of warranty) and on a recent dig he did some serious damage to the control box, ending up with a totally dead machine. He called Minelab and was pleasantly surprised at the response. They told him to mail the box to them and they could fix it for "substantially less than you might think". This is an out of warranty machine and an operator error caused the problem yet they were quick to respond, very helpful on the phone and promised a quick turnaround.

I'll let you know how this one plays out.

You can buy nylon nuts and bolts at the local Ace Hardware!!!. Did you want to talk to a tech about the nut and bolt?

Jeff

I sent my Safari in to have it checked and the Tech phoned me! I don't doubt your word, but the only problem I had was it took 3 weeks to get it back! Sounds like someone forgot to take their estrogen pill that day! And the prices you quoted for a couple of plastic parts is rediculous too. I'd go email next time I needed some info. Onus

Moose, Perhaps the lady was just having a bad day.
But ... still I can understand how you feel.

Getting people to boycott Minelab just isn't gonna happen.
They make the best detectors out there and people like them.
I think you should dump all your Minelab detectors and switch to White's or Garrett's to show them how you feel.
Please let me know the selling price of your detectors.
