Confederate buckle found!

Hey guys,

This is my first time posting on here, but had to brag about this Confederate buckle find from this weekend! I bought a Whites MXT pro around Christmas last year and it has already given me the find of a lifetime. I also found this US plate that I have no idea what it went to. If anyone could tell me what it is, I would appreciate it.

CSA BUCKLE !!! :clapping: wow ! Amazing find and thanks for posting. There aren't many of those finds 'popping' out of the ground these days. I think you should send that CSA buckle find picture and story to Whites. Might be a large gift certificate in the making. ??? That MXT is a great all-around machine for sure and it definitely served you well. Could you please expand on the story of finding it just a bit more for us ??? (without giving away any of your secrets of course) Thanks for posting as I am truly in awe. cch.

Two fantastic finds and welcome to the forum. I agree with CCH that your pictures and a short story to White's could be worth $100 in mdse to you.

Ker-Pow!!! Absolutely incredible find!!! Congratulations to you for finding such a hard-to-find buckle, and in great shape too!

Thanks,

I was thinking of sending my story to Whites. It was an incredible find and I was very lucky to run across this spot.I was hunting in the local park near my home this past Saturday, when a gentleman pulled up and asked me how much I would charge to hunt an old home place that he owned. I just sort of laughed and told him I wouldn't charge him anything because I just loved hunting new places, but if I found anything of value that I would split it with him. He led me out to the spot and showed me where there was an old home site that was gone but he said that it had been there in the 1800's and I could see where the house probably sit on a hill on the edge of the property. I told him that me and a friend of mine would probably hunt it Sunday, so he told me that would be fine and we both left. I went home and got me a bite of lunch and my curiosity got the best of me, so I decided to go hunt it for a while that afternoon. I hunted on the top of the hill where the house had been but didn't get many good hits for about 30 minutes, so I decided to ease down the hill and got a signal on my detector. I was in coin & jewelry mode and It showed up as a penny or dime on my screen at about 4 inches, but I don't remember what the VDI was, because I got so excited when the buckle popped out of the ground, I just sat there in awe & shock for a few minutes. I was on that property for 30 minutes and found a CSA buckle. I found the US bridle bit on the same property on Sunday while hunting with my detecting buddy. WHAT A WEEKEND!

Congrats! Very jealous

CB, what you found is one rare belt plate. It is a "Western" theatre plate with CSA, whereas most reb buckles have just CS, either in oval or sardine can sytle, with corners clipped or squared with a thicker border. This one is typical for LA, AR, MS and TX. If it got all dirty and you want to get rid of the dirty ole hunk of brass, let me know and I will take it off your hands. I haven't looked for one of those except since 1976, yet you found one after searching for 30 minutes! Let's see 41 years searching for me, 30 minutes for you. I think you won that race!

Dirty Nails: I wouldn't die standing up, but I would be dead before I hit the ground. I guess that's why the Good Lord hasn't let me find one. I have found U.S. plates and Breast plates and Rebel Stirrups (2), but no Rebel Plates yet. I have bought one, but I'm hoping the Lord will let me find one in the ground before I breathe my last breath. Once I've found it, I'm ready to go up His escalater to Heaven. (I hope he'll let me take it with me.) :)
