Conductive vs. Ferrous

I always hunt with conductive sounds but I read on here where some of you hunt with ferrous sounds. What would be the advantage of one over the other.

Conduct: Produces different pitch based on conductivity value. (Silver higher pitch then clad)
Ferrous: Produces different pitch based on inductance value.
Options are good for differentiating between targets that have similar conductivity but different inductance and vice-versa.
 
Ferrous sounds are typically used by those hunting in iron mask mode, usually -10 to -16. This mode of hunting is used to get more depth out of the Explorer.
Think of it like this... Conductive sounds are typically more of an north and south sound circuit. Ferrous is more of an east and west.
Because iron mask mode leaves so much of the screen open, you are generally most interested in the targets that make it to the right third of the screen. The sound for these items in ferrous mode is much higher and will let you stop and check your meter.

A Ferrous nail is a highly conductive target and will show up at the top of the smart screen. When using no discrimation or Iron Mask -16 it will produce a high tone which could be mistaken for a good target.To solve this problem just use the Ferrous mode,now the highly conductive Ferrous nail will have a low tone because of its magnetic qualitys(The more left of the middle of the smart screen the curser is the more ferrous or magnetic the target is and the lower the tone well be.)
 
In genberally use conductive mode till I dont get any more signals, then switch to ferrous and hunt in th eiron ridden areas and pick off the targets that give a higher tone then iron does.. I prefer conductive mainly because of the junk that reads low on the screen gives the low tones, and is not as confusing, but when the site gets cloeaned out you usually can pick off a few more good targets in the iron using ferrous, even readings that wont move them crosshairs from the upper left will still give you a high tone if they are not iron, you wil be suprised at whats left..
 
I think that this is the answer to my digging all of the darned nails. I will try the Ferrous mode and see if can do better. As all of us know, the XLT and most of the other modern detectors work in Inductive, of Ferris mode and iron is much lower sound on all of them. Induction means the risistance of a material to the change in direction of an AC current. I will let you know how I do.
 
Just be aware that crown caps and foil will give you a higher tone.. I recomend notching out crown caps and foil if your hunting in ferrous in areas with lots of that type trash, or it will be more confusing than nails
