Condit Dam destroyed 100 years worth of lake drained

I am trying to to get some guys together to go check out the OLD northwestern lake this Sunday. The dam was blown up yesterday draining the lake. This dam was built in 1913. I personally have been on the lake 100s of times, and fished it 100's more. Some of the biggest rainbows I have ever seen and caught.

Well the lake also has a legend of buried gold. A Indian named Jake Hunt supposedly buried a bag of gold $1000 coins at the time before they filled the lake. He left for 6 months (that's why he buried it) burying the gold hidden close to the bank.

Too bad I am in Connecticut :( Looks like a great place to hit up. I hope you find that gold! Best of luck! - Jim

I hope you find that Gold Bag. Can you imagine how many rings, chains, watches and coins have been lost there. Bag the Discrimination and dig EVERYTHING. !!! That is a real jackpot for sure. Heck, I'd camp there for a bit if I were you. WOOOOOOW. !!! Be sure to Post The PICS ok. PEACE:RONB :yikes: :clapping:

Here's a good link to some video of the lake side. Now this lake is really alot wider in the middle then the ends. 92 acres is a lot of area to cover but I have a few leads and just one of the now dry docks is gonna be loaded. I like that camping idea but need a camper cause a tent ain't going to cut it.

Just be careful as you will sink in that muck. Looks like an awesome place to hunt and wish you the best in finding Jake's gold. - Jim

what a opportunity

Yeah dangerous would be a understatement. Just look at the size of that chunk that floated down river in the last video. It all looks to me like Mt st Helena blew again seeing all that mud flow. I would just go further up by the resort just to see how it is there first. It's really go to suck to have lake front property one minute and Shrecks swap a hour later. They thought it could take at least 6 hours to drain the lake and it took less that 1 hour.

My question is what parcel is the 100 acres that he owned? (not that you have to tell us but food for thought) If you have identified the 100 acres he use to own, (family members still own it?) now you have to figure out where the loot is hidden. 100 acres is a LOT of land. But who just goes out and randomly picks a spot, dig and bury? Man, from the beginning of time has always used something that mother earth has provided for "markers" Rocks, large trees, certain corner of a lot, sacred burial place etc Maybe he used the sun or moon at a certain time of the day to mark his treasure spot. Indians / Native Americans were much more in touch with the earth then the white man. His statement, "say no one have land, no one get money hide in land" indicates obviously not to give the land or sell the land to white man and that the money is there. The BIG question is where? lol.

Money in the bank(s) indicate to me he was a very wealthy man for the time. On the flip side, I am surprised he would even use banks to store his money. He is going to trust white man with his money? The time period he existed in I feel this is very unlikely. He may have more buried then what even his descendants realize. Good luck & happy hnuting in tracking down the gold!

Well through my research I believe it to buried somewhere besides the riverbank unless he intentionally wanted it under water. Which even with a lot of money people still bank it even if buried. I think he took cash to the bank and figured it as most people did back then as nothing more than paper. His family would have inheritied the cash or money in the bank. He probably figured if it's about worthless paper and the banks are worthless then why not just have the banks hold the notes and mother earth hold the coins. Now the question is where in deed.

Any thoughts?

If anyone can research more than me then feel free to let me know what you find. I am always the sharing type ;)

Check out the story of the Klickitat squaw that lost some. Notice who's name gets dropped in there towards the bottom. Jake Hunt. It's
Amazing that the Indians would live as long as they did. A lot of them into the 100s easily.

I am by the way 1/4 Yakima. I know of a bunch of other Indians that bury the gold they would get. Kind of a thing.

I will tell you exactly where it's at just pm me and I will give you the GPS Coordinates. Lol just kidding. I have a couple strong leads and permission is in the works. I wanted to get up there today but I am hearing they have 90% taped off.

It's amazing with all the technology in the world that we have and I am willing to bet that something like this would be found by the old word of mouth and handshakes. (or by accident). I have found more information talking to people than what comes close to Internet research or news. Now compiling it and making it something useful is a little more difficult. A lot of people didn't even know about the buried loot when asked and they live within 5 miles of the dam. Like I said I used to practically live there in the summer and even know some of the locals from the old white water rafting service that runs the white salmon. Even I didn't know of the legend as a kid.

Any locals of the area want to get together and hunt let me know.
