Concerning Ground Balance...

Here is my confusion. Is ground balance and auto tracking the same thing on the CTX? I thought I read that it is the same thing on one of the post in the GB thread. If it is, then my question is this. If you are not supposed to ground balance at the beach, leave the GB box unchecked and in the auto mode, isn't the machine then doing automatic ground balance? So, at the beach shouldn't the GB box be check so the auto mode would not be activated?
If I read the post wrong, while at the beach you should leave the GB box checked, I apologize for this post.

Wen you Set the CTX in Ground Balance and bob the coil its in Lock Cozz you G/B it, Auto Tracking is wen you don't Ground Balance
G/B Box not checked and the CTX will track, Did I say that right???? Help Guys im new also, Mickfin

Leave the GB unchecked at the beach. Beach conditions change constantly from the dry sand, to the wet sand, and then in the water. If you were to check the GB, and manually GB say in the dry sand, then you would have to GB again once you hit the wet sand and then the water to keep the machine stable. The auto tracking capabilities eliminates having to constantly GB in those changing conditions.

Until a person gets some time on the CTX 3030 I would suggest using the default modes and not checking anything. Example: In the beach mode you will have deep ON low trash ON seawater ON and auto ground balance response NORMAL pin-point NORMAL. It is the same with all the factory modes. Sure you may need to tweak a few things for your favorite sites or ground or make some special programs but learn the machine and make changes as needed. What works in other places may hurt you in your area. I have had mine since they first came out and have pushed every button on it many times and have tried many changes and have found myself almost back to the factory settings and it works for me in my ground. Now after that little piece of advice it is your machine do what ever you want to. HH :minelab:

GateKeeper, 1, so if I G/B its in Lock Right, 2, If I G/B and say in 20 min I Pump the coil in search mode (Not over a target) and my threshold
is changing??? Dos that mean my G/B is out of Tune, Thanks,
Mickfin,

Mickfin, What you will hear is your machine acting erratic, with excessive chatter when it's out of balance. Like Hershey1 said, until you guys get a total grasp of you CTX, stay in factory presets. Only when you totally understand what a function does should you change it.

No. The generic term "ground balance" is used to describe how your detector can compensate for the effects of mineralization. With the CTX 3030 Ground Balance Enabled, you are setting the ground balance to a fixed setting, by the procedure described in the manual. (bobbing). The ground balance that is selected by the CTX will remain in that fixed setting until you do the procedure again, or disable the feature Ground Balance. I describe Tracking as being "ground balance on the fly". By that I mean the CTX is constantly monitoring the ground phase relationship, and makes adjustments as you detect. This is the mode implemented by the CTX when the feature "Ground Balance" is NOT Enabled. (unchecked box) JMHO HH Randy
