Concentric or WideScan?

New member
I am looking for a 5.75 coil for my vequero. After searching on line I realised there were several options ,concentric and wide scan.Whats the difference? Also does any one have a favorite place to buy equipment from?

Also are there any other brands that will fit and work as well

Thanks for any help
Tony

I believe that a concentric coil works best in "good" ground and a wide scan coil works best in minerized ground. The concentric coil gets better depth I am told. I will pm you the dealer where I get my detectors & detecting supplies from. Steve.

You know i asked to get the 5.75 when i bought my silver but they would not let me chose the coil when i got my machine the reason i think really , they give you a coil thats junk so you have to buy two extras to do what you need done kinda forced into buying what you need i wish for one that when you buy a tesoro you could chose your own coil thears no doubt i would rather the 5.75 or even the 7" widescan really bugs me whites does that to just a part of making mechendise of you $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

The concentric is best for most conditions. If soil conditions are highly mineralized, then the wide scan can give an edge.

Though some users may feel differently,

I feel Tesoro presents each machine with what they feel is the optimal coil for general use in the widest variety of soil types that machine is designed for use in. It is in their better interest that the machine functions well for most users.

From that standard point, users may be more selective and choose more specific function oriented coils for tasks they may wish to focus upon.

I've never felt any stock Tesoro coil left me at any disadvantage.

Widescans ( or DD's ) are for highly mineralized ground and in normal ground will perform no better than a concentric of equal size. They do cover more ground due to the configuration of their signal pattern and they pinpoint off the front or back tip of the coil because they have no receiver for pinpointing. They detect as deep at either end as they do anywhere else. They also love bottlecaps and don't discriminate nearly as well as a concentric.

Searchcoils

There are two main types of searchcoils currently on the market

Thanks Willie, that was very informative.

I always wondered why they called it a "DD" or "Double D".
I have a mental image of the "bubble" traveling through the
ground and the air. I think of it as the "eye sight" of the coil.
My mental image went to a tot lot to day and the closest
thing to jewelry it could come up with was two ear ring backs.
That's probably because I hunted it a couple of months ago
and they don't re-fill very quick in the winter time. That's has
slowed my jewelry finding some what. I'm trying to be more
versatile and creative in my thinking.I'm not doing too bad
though and it's a lot of fun.
