Concentric or widescan 5.75 coil?

Bucksport

Active member
I am probably putting the cart before the horse. I have not even gotten my Cibola yet. I want to get an extra coil to complement the stock coil. I am familiar with the concentric coil on my compadre, but need some info on the widescan in the same size? Anyone use both on the same machine? Major differences? Thanks

What is your ground conditions there?

Got a 10X12 DD and the standard 9" for my Vaq, so this is the only one left that I need.

I know the DD will have that longer scanning field, and will be better in mineralized soil, but in good soil the concentric will be a little deeper.
I have read many threads on this choice and it seems think the concentric is a little more popular.

Buck, the widescan will cover more ground in every sweep but wont achieve the depth of the concentric unless you have highly mineralized soil.
The widescan will false on targets easier than the concentric. I use the 5x10 exclusively (on my Vaquero) for shallow coin/jewelry hunting.

"EDIT"...

The 5.75 AND this one are the only coils I need to buy for my Vaq.

Thanks for the replies. My ground conditions are very neutral here. Since the price is the same I might just go with a concentric :)

The good thing here, IMHO is you won't be hurting your self with either. I'd prefer the concentric for whatever that's worth as they generally discriminate a bit better and as mentioned above get a little better depth all else being more or less equal.

Thanks BB, these are the opinions that I count on from the Tesoro pros ;)
