Concentric coils ?

SWMO Mark

New member
Anyone use either of Garretts concentric coils on their AT Gold or Pro. Concentric coils discriminate rusty bottle caps out much better than a DD coil. Thought one of these coils might be good to have for coinhunting older areas that have a lot of bottlecaps. Not the best coil for bad mineralization, but in medium to low mineralization the concentric might be a better coin coil. Any thoughts ? Mark

If you learn the audio in pro mode, you will dig zero rusty bottle caps even with a DD coil. Plus they separate better. On the ace 250 I used my 8.5 by 11 coil on the beach over the stock coil a couple years ago because it had better coverage. I must have dug every bottle cap on the entire beach because they all gave quarter signals. A year later with my AT Pro using the same coil, zero bottle caps. I just didn't dig the bottle cap signals.

I think it's a matter of personal preference and almost a religious argument.

I have DD on the AT Pro and Concentrics on the Ace 250. I've used a lot of both types and hunt all sorts of trashy areas. After learning how to use the AT Pro and DD I don't see bottle caps as being a problem and I really prefer the more uniform coverage of the DD. I feel I can discriminate those bottle caps pretty well in the Pro Mode Audio but on most occasions I probably dig them anyway. It's a very fine line between trash and treasure and I'm often surprised. Also... every bottle cap I dig is one less that I'll have to deal with the next time.

For me, the concentric coil is the best against bottle caps.
In places with many bottle caps i use a concentric coil.
I change to the DD Coil when there are no or just a few of bottle caps.
