Computer Q = restoring point

steve in so la

Well-known member
Has anyone had experience in restoring the computer to a previous date ? I have done it twice in the past and when I did it today (trying to get rid of the sluggishness) it worked but I lost most of my favorites. Why did this happen - any way to get them back ? thanks, steve in so az

You can restore back to today's date and that may get them back. This has happened to me before. So when I go to restore to a previous date I save a export file of my Favorites and put it on disk. That way if they come up missing I just import the favorites from the disk.

was I did return to today's date but the folders were still missing. Can you send me the steps for putting the favorites and their addresses on a floppy disk ? Thanks, steve

If you're using XP, do a right click on the start button, and select Explore. When your windows explorer window comes up, it should place you in your profile name(under a subfolder called "start menu" in the Documents and Settings folder. In you profile, you will have another folder called Favorites(should be right above the start menu folder), with a star in front of it. There, you will find all your saved favorite places. Click and highlight all the shortcuts, then drag them to whatever drive you want to copy them too(either floppy, or flashdrive). I personally like using flashdrives better now, because they are quicker, and you can hold a ton of data on them. I've never had them go bad like a floppy either.

When I open the star one all that's in there are 4 folders saying financial, radio station guide, links, etc. Nothing having favorites. steve

Nancy just fired up our laptop and all my favorites are still there !! How do I transfer them to my main computer now? I have 2 computers on 2 phone lines , both using the same MSN account. Running XP version 8. Thanks, steve

Just do what rentasquid (J.) suggested. Copy your favorites from your laptop to a disk or jump drive, then copy that file to your Favorites on your desk top. That should put everything back to normal.

when I put the favorites on a disk will it include the addys also, & not just the folder and name ? These are probably dumb questions but I am not real computer literate :) Thanks, steve

these computers ! Now the list of original sites have disappeared and replaced with the partial list that I got yesterday :( Steve

you mentioned that the favorites list has changed a couple of times. Could you have possibly started XP under different profiles those two times? Your favorite list might be different than your wifes.
