Computer has died - Xchage2 data - Backup

My laptop had died and gone to the cloud! I've now purchased a new one and spent the last week reinstalling all the software etc. I'm hoping to take the old hard drive out of the laptop and connect it to my new machine and download some data.

My question is where will I find my Xchange2 data? Also for future reference where and how is the best way to back up this data so it isn't lost. Luckily it was the graphic card on the motherboard and not the hard drive.

Latest finds are 2 farthing tokens 1651 and 1654 (amazing condition) plus a medieval pendant.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Regards

Paul Walker

C,Users,(whatever you named your computer), App Data-may need to go to folder options in control panel to show hidden folders, Roaming, Exchange2. In this folder all you need to copy is mldata, this has all your saved hunts, folders etc.

I keep the mldata on a flash drive so just in case this happens, you do not lose all your previous inputted hunts. When you set up Exchange 2 on another computer, all you need to do is copy the mldata into the new computer following the same path. I usually update the flash drive every hunt & I copy that right to the other computer I have...

I agree, keep a copy on a USB drive. You can also download it directly from the Minelab website. It may take a try or two if loading onto a Windows 8 platform.

How do I know? I had to purchase a new laptop over the weekend and everything out there was an 8, or 8.1. Downloaded the program from Minelab's website and went through the install process. Halfway through my anti-virus program told me that it had intercepted a trojan and cancelled the Xchange setup.

I ran scans on everything, tried again, same thing. For some reason, the fourth time was a charm and I was able to install Xchange 2.

Just so everyone knows, it's just my .02. :)

Surprised there just isn't a "backup to disk" feature in the xchange2 software? Select your drive and backup. Would then be nice to have a "Restore from Backup" - select backup file and restore...

Pretty basic for the last how many decades? Seems like this would make it a lot easier for some that don't care to file search and manually put things back together. (?)

Love the software once you learn how to tame it, but intuitive it's not in my opinion.
