Computer advice needed -

I am thinking of finally moving to high speed internet service. Can you all tell me what you have in this line , how it's set up, what's involved, and the costs, etc ? I presently have MSN, XP, version 9. Besides being slow they have a bug that the tech support cannot get rid of. A window comes up about 4-5 times a day saying there has been "an internel error" and I lose everything on the net. Tech had me uninstall & install everything but still it shows up. Thanks for any help, Steve in so az

I have the lowest level DSL. That's over a phone line. I got a combination deal with sprint before they became Emarq. The speed only helps when dowloading and some when going to a web page. With the higher speeds you can have a camera. That allows you and another party that has high speed to video conference. Unless you download a lot I go the expense of Road Runner. If you have cable they probably offer a bundle deal. I also have unlimited long distance phoning. I can talk on the phone and be on the internet at the same. It's costing me $82 a month. If you have a land-line phone check with them. Hope this helps.
May God Bless you and Nancy.

Steve,

Do you have cable? Your cable company may offer internet service. Mine is about 40 bucks a month and then there's the cable TV and the phone service. (ouch). They pretty much have you over a barrel here. Only recently is the DSL service being updated to produce some very high speed connections.

Check with your phone company regarding DSL and see if they can offer you a package for the phone too. I have just a flat fee on the phone (I think it's 14.95 for the 1st year) and free long distance. All they do is hook up your phone line to a modem in your house and connect the phone and the computer to it. Pretty simple. As much as you're on the net with dial up, you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner. It's a pleasure to use.

I also had MSN. I now have SBC and it cost I think 3 or 4 dollars more per month. However, For the 3 or 4 dollars I went to high spped ( love it!!! ) and I can also talk on the phone while on the wed. To me it was well worth it!!
Cant remember how much it was for the "box" that you need to run it but I think it was near $100. You could Call best buy to check it may have come down in price since I changed.
Cant say I've ever had someone say they dont like the high speed

does it have anything to do with a "WIN 32 SERVICES" has detected an internal error, and go on to say it might be your modem??I took MSN to task on it,and they said it is very common-They said they think it is a virus of some sort....Problem is;I let my anti-virus expire-SO:Today I bought me the Mcaffee Anti-"you name it-it will kill it 2007"-I am going to put it in tomorrow when I get home-it claims it will clean up ANY known bugaboo-If it STILL has that problem;I am switching to another provider-ASAP!....

when the "internal error" showed up again - it was followed by ( when I clicked on 'report it to msn' ) a large screen notice saying that " MSN cannot cure the internal error at present". They say I may want to run an upgrade but they dont know if it will help.

2 days ago I had a technician on the phone uninstall and install again my MSN setup. No change - the error still shows . So dont bother with the tech support, they admit they cannot fix it. I'm sure they are working overtime to cure it so I'll wait for now.
Good to get that anti virus installed. My Norton just yesterday caught one and I think it's the one you mentioned.

Good luck, these computers are more difficult than anything too live with !! Steve
