Competition Hunts

Recently I attended another hunt, the first with E-Trac. I was wonder about a concentric coil for hunting competition, when speed is involved. This should make it easier to locate and pinpoint quickly, since the coins are about 2 inches... I did alright, however if I could add some speed after the fast on and sens turned down. The pro coil is a bit big to pinpoint quickly. Am I correctly thinking? or thinking correctly?

Magic, I "graduated" to the E-trac from a GTI-2500 and a DFX, on both of which I used a variety of concentric coils. Since using the E-trac for the last 9 months, I'm convinced the 11" Double D Pro achieves much better target separation than any concentric coil I've ever used. I've been going back over places I've hunted previously with the above mentioned machines and am amazed at the number of targets I missed with two fairly decent detectors. I believe the Double D does a much better job of target separation and therefore target identification to which I credit finding previously missed targets. Having said that, it has always been easier and faster to pinpoint a target with a smaller concentric coil than with a larger concentric coil. The same is true for the 11" Pro and my 12x15 SEF. For those reasons, I'd consider the 6x8 SEF to retain superior target identification of the Double D, and faster pinpointing with smaller coil. Just my opinion for your consideration.

No doubt about going over the areas I have been with my SE... I have been finding targets left behind.

However in competition hunts the items are seeded and speed is the name of the game and pinpointing is not the fastest with a large DD coil and I thought a concentric coil at low sens would be quicker.
