How well does the Compadre perform in competition hunting? What model would be better?

Back in the 80's I won a competition speed hunt with a Garrett Freedom III and the Groundhog 7" coil. I finished the LAST of the 3 fields while the other competitors were in the FIRST of the 3 fields. How fast can you pinpoint? I think that's the key.REVIER said:Ok, here is my problem.
I have a hunt coming up in the fall, and I am torn between using the Compadre or my Vaquero with a 10X12 DD coil.
This is a field, no fence lines that I know of, and I am pretty good and fast at coin shooting with both.
My thinking is the frequency shift on the Vaq could be very helpful, but the larger coil could be even more so.
I have the 7" coil on my Compadre, but still I feel the bigger coil should be the one I use.
What to do....what to do...

Ha! Well, after reading all your posts, I know you use the "eyespot" pinpointing I use::the eyes freezing on a spot on the ground where the detector beeped when the center of the coil passed over it. Back then, everyone was taking "all the time in the world" to push the pinpoint button, scan in a little circle, and then locate the "center" of the signal, then pop the item out. Heck, even my Freedom III had a pinpoint! But I never used it. The "eyespot" was immediate, for me, and I had it pinpointed the second, or at most, third sweep.REVIER said:slingshot said:Back in the 80's I won a competition speed hunt with a Garrett Freedom III and the Groundhog 7" coil. Well, I had an old girlfriend that could go from nice to b**ch in about 5 seconds.
I am not quite as fast as that...but close.
