Competition Hunt plans to carry in a CZ7A also

Never hunted competition hunts with a CZ Fisher machine nor any other as far as that goes....Sure could use some help from any of you who have actually been involved in some competition hunts.

What advise could you guys give a newbie! Not to detecting but how do these Competition hunts stack up against a hour to two hours of happy hobby hunting? Are these guys really that competitive? And is there a sense of companionship and friends in these hunts or fierce debates and issues? Just wondering what I got myself into here?
If you've been in some of these hunts, how should I start and hunt, tools I should have on hand, Shovel or trowel for digging? Pinpointer of not?
Anything you can add would be appeciated!!
Thanks

KCK,I used a CZ7A and a Cibola in a Michigan competition hunt last fall and did very well.I liked the CZ7A better than the Cibola.I would use an eight inch coil, only wear one glove, knee pads, carry a pinpointer and bring rain gear. Most of the hunts were back to back with a 40-45 minute break there were at least a half a dozen of hunts. The 2-3 acres sites would be cleaned out within 20 minutes so speed is important, what surprised me a lot of the coins were at least 6 inches deep.I consider these hunt more fun than competition you meet a lot of hunters who use different equipment and techniques.Heck I even had a couple of free beers and hamburgers swapped stories with other hunters and made friends. There were a lot of great people at this meet.

stories being at these competitions. Sounds like a lot of fun! Thanks for your feedback and valyable information!

I think the detector I was most impressed with at the comp hunt was the Fisher 1236x.I was so impressed I bought one.

Well. I started the hunt at the Great Southern Beach Shootout at Daytona and got blown out of the water so to speak. The interference from other machines made the CZ7a pro almost un usable. Switched to a Minelab EX-2 for later hunts and had no further problems. I guess it depends on how close you will be to other hunters.02

I hope they will hunt okay! They are good for about 6 inches...Hunt extremely fast and were designed for competition hunts, but I've never tried them in competition as I've played that way!
This year is just going to be a learning experience for sure!

Was certainly the 1235 X . Basically one wants a unit that is light, pinponts quickly and can change frequencies..Most competition hunts the targets are only several inches deep and speed is the name of the game so leave your pinpointer home and look for the cuts in the ground when you pinpoint as it will save you time.
Heck are they competetive, sure are but in a nice way and more of a fun hunt to try to beat your buddy.
Nice place to see new units and perhaps homeade ideas as our hobby has some great innovators. In between hunts can be a fun time if your a mixer as war stories abound and one can pick up some nice tips for general hobby hunting. Probably not going to be the best kid on the block as some of these guys and gals are really experienced and make sure you bring rain gear for yourself and the detector control box as unless the storm is threatening to the participants the hunt goes rain or shine.
Last but not least do attend one as you will enjoy yourself and expect a fun day...

The Fisher CZ7A worked good for me at that hunt, better than the Tesoro.Hunters were complaining about Minelab signals interfering mulling out their units not just Fisher user's.My suggestion bring more than one detector and try a different detector in the first two hunts, thats how I picked the Fisher over the Tesoro.
