Compatable coils for older whites detectors

Hi all, thanks for any help received. I have standard Whites's 6000/D Coinmaster that works fine. The original coil is 8 inch and marked D5 on the wing. I have purchased a second hand 4 inch coil. It is marked B 6 on the wing. All I get is a steady tone and can't get it to ring even with copper coins. Is this coil be suitable for my machine? I was told it was working on a 6000/D Series 2 machine. Is that why it is not working. Also I have check two working D5 coils and get nice resistance readings on ALL of the five pins. With the B6 coil some pins are open circuit. Any help well appreciated. Alimo88
