Compass KLONDIKE 41 & 64 BFO

Old California

New member
Here are several pics of two extremely rare detectors, fresh out of the box are two Compass Klondike (41 & 64) BFO detectors.

Thanks to Alan Cannon, these two rare detectors along with several others from his collection are now displayed with my vintage metal detector collection.

From a distance, they can pass for an old TR but up close and the sound of a small motor boat motor tell different ;)

Thanks for looking,
Paul (Ca)

I used to have several Klondike models, rod-mount and hip-mount, single and dual-coil models. I sold the whole lot to a friend about twenty years ago. I'm going to try and track him down on this trip to the Utah GPAA show and see if he still has them. If so, maybe I can get them back, since older detector seem to have drawn a lot of attention this past decade or so. Most of them matched the condition of those you got from Alan.

Thanks Monte,

Appreciate you sharing of having several of the Klondike models, The first of Compass line detectors.

That would be great if you were to get them back from your friend, I know you will relish having them back in your collection. I am very grateful of having these two, to find one let alone two especially in new condition is rare. Very happy Alan trusted me to include these in my collection.

Even with todays technology, find myself using these old BFO or TR dinosaurs for surface finds or an old ghost town settlement laced with square nails.

Thanks again Monte, what I would give to have traveled a portion of the many paths you endured in your treasure hunting days.

Yes, the Klondikes were some of the first Compass made. If I can get them or any of them, back, I'll maybe hang onto one or two and I know someone who would maybe like an old and unique relic.

Every now and then I would drag an "old friend" out to do a little "specialty work," especially in iron nails, but times are changing, as is my health, so now I am just trying to enjoy all that I can while I can.

I am not all done travelin'. :) Slowing down a lot, but I'll be back in my #1 favorite ghost town on Monday. I sure hope the weather is decent and it's not over-vegetated like last year. I hit it with my brother Ed on May 4th, 1969, and it has been the best-producing old site I have ever enjoyed.

If I can track them down, I'll let you know.
