Compass coin scanner?

I was wondering what is the difference between the coin scanner and coin scanner pro? Do these detectors have tone ID? If so how many tones? Also do they have modulated volume were the deep targets are softer? And last but not least are they pretty dependable, since the company is no longer in business?

Hello Harold,

I have both the Coin Scanner Pro and Coin Scanner Pro II, Don't have the Coin Scanner but I believe the Coin Scanner does not have the three tone ID as the Pro and Pro II have.

The Coin Scanner Pro and Pro II both have a three tone ID, (Single-dual-Tri) using a toggle switch to select the tone mode and again I don't think the regular Coin Scanner has the three tone feature..

The modulated volume were deep targets are softer/weaker is not quite what you may be accustomed too, Deep targets sound almost as loud as the shallow signals. It's only at the extreme deeper depth on a coin you can hear a slight difference, And of course the analog needle will move slightly slower on the deeper signals.....I view this as positive because even the smallest of finds (gold jewelry) heck even a gold nugget will bang out loud and clear, So if the detector had modulated volume the smaller deeper targets would be weaker.

The Coin Scanner series are very dependable machines including other Scanner series models, I'd rather have a good used Compass Scanner Series detector over any newer model detector under the $600 price range.

You can pickup any of the Coin Scanner series including the Coin Scanner models between $225-325.00, Now that's a steal for a super good detector that will run circles around detectors costing 2-3 times that amount.

Thanks for the repley Ron! I have got so use to hunting with the modulated volume I don't think I can hunt with out it. Funny when I first started detecting I like to run the volume as loud as I could stand it, figuring I would not miss any deep targets. Then I hunted with a guy who had been detecting about thirty years and he hunted with the volume down and suggest I try it. I did and have been hooked on hunting that way ever since! That's what I liked about the Fisher CZs and now the E-trac I use as my main machine is the adjustable audio. And I know some people say you miss some deep targets that way but I have dug barber dimes down to 10'' that way so that is plenty depth for me!
