Comparison between Etrac and GTI 2500

Has anyone used both the etrac and garret gti 2500? If so, could you give your pros and cons? thanks

I have owned both and several other brands...I still have the etrac...Depends on what you want to do, I just hunt coins. I don't dig foil or pull tab sounds or #"s. I will dig weird nickle signals and anything above 24FE/30 CO that sound good. I can't tell you anything about the etrac on gold or use around water. One of the best cherry pickers for coins on the market in my opinion. My son who has a lot more experience metal detecting than I do used white's machines. The last one a white's v3i but now uses the etrac. Etrac takes a little getting use to but they all do.

If you are looking to buy either one just check your local dealers. Try both it all boils down to which one you have the most confidence in. Good Luck....

I started with the GTAX 550 and then moved up to the GTI2500. I found several pieces of silver and some rings with the 2500. My wife gave me the ETRAC for our 25th anniversary last October. I found more silver since October with the Minelab than I did with the 2500 which I had for 2 years. I kept both the Garretts and my brother in law uses the 2500 when he goes with me. (He has a different brand). He still finds some good stuff with the 2500 but I always find more. He laughs and tells me I need to buy him a E-TRAC where he can keep up.LOL. I am not bashing the Garretts as i like both of them! I still love the bell tone! The pin point is dead on and the sizing is a nice plus. I live in Mobile, Alabama and there is a lot of iron and trash in the areas I search (where isn't). I feel the Minelab really does better. I always carry a second detector with me in case I meet someone that would like to detect for the first time and I give them a Garrett to try out. Everyone that has used the Garretts has commented about how much they like them. They are really a turn on and go detector! I just feel the E-Trac does much better separating iron form the good stuff. The move from 550 to 2500 is about the same as 2500 to the E-Trac in my opinion. All are good but I personally like the Minelab more. Either way you will find good stuff.

I can make this comment. I hunt with 1 friend and have found silver just after he had worked the same ground. Probably not a bad detector, but definetly NOT an Etrac.

If you are hunting in most places where 8 or 9 inchs is considered deep either machine will do fine BUT if there are deeper targets the E-Trac will find targets the Garrett will not hear. I have had many machines and most were very good but for extreme depth I have'nt found a machine that you can hunt anywhere like the FBS machines from Minelab. There are machines out there that serve some people better but around houses with alarm systems, power lines, electric fences, hydro-electric dams, downtown I have better results with ML's than the other $1000+ machines. Just my opinion. HH :minelab:
