Comparing the Cibola to the new Garrett 250....

....... are they about equal in depth? Seems like the Garret sure has lots of features for the price? What do you guys say? Thanks.

I have a Vaquero and an Ace 250.
The Vaquero is inches deeper in disc mode on low conductive targets like nickels and gold ring etc.
It has a deep all metal mode too.
Even on silver coins the Vaquero beats the Garrett in depth. The differance in depth on silver is not so much like on nickels and gold rings.
Performance wise the Vaquero is the winner.
But the Garrett 250 is a great detector too. With all the features for less than half of the cost of one Vaquero it is a winner in its class.
Believe me, i wouldn't have the Vaquero if the Garrett Ace 250 could do its job.
I even rate the Garrett GTAx 1250 higher than the Ace 250 in matter of performance.
If i could just have two detectors it would be the GTAx 1250 and the Vaquero. And more important than the right detector is the right coil for your type of hunting.
I like the Ace 250 because it is a fun mashine that performes very well for its price. And not all coins or rings are 9+ inches deep. How to have more finds than me ? Spend more time in the field at the right location.

Andy

Thanks for the reply! Both detectors sound interesting to me. I would like to get one of them, sometime, to pair with my Pantera. I suppose that the 250 and the Pantera would be the most similar(shallower hunting, audio ID detectors). I just dont know if I want to go back to a mono audio detector like the Vaquero. But, I would like to have one detector that had the ability that can go deeper. I want...I want...Oh..I dont know what I want . If I ever see a used 250 in the 150 dollar range(or less), I might just take one for a test drive.
Anyway, thanks for the report/opinion!
J.

Hey J.---Have you tried Tesoro's 10 1/2 inch concentric coil with your pantera? They can be bought cheaply used and not too costly brand new. It is a great set up with that machine and adds considerably to depth. HH

No, I havent used that coil. Is it as heavy as the 11" widescan? I used that coil for about 4 hours at a beach on New Years Eve, and my arm about fell off! That even with the detector hipmounted. I am pretty much a wimp though Thanks for the advice, and maybe I'll try one, one of these days!
J.

I had that one too and I know what your talking about. The Concentric is pancake thin with the open center. Very light and feels good on the end of your pole all day long. Get one J! You will like it, especially for open fields, big yards, etc
