Comparing Ace 250 with Sniper coil vs At Pro 5x8

Over last summer on numerous hunts. Along steel fences, around old concession stands, picnic pavilions. Tabs, alum slaw, wadded pieces of foil, snipped off fencing. Nuts, bolts, washers, screws. Hunted these two threw some bad stuff. Like many of you. For me the Ace with the Sniper coil is a deadly tool with excellent pinpointing. Can get down there too. The Pro with the 5x8, is top notch in these areas. Pro has better speed of course. The 5x8 has a better ability to drift out to wider areas. Also much better target id. Sooo, The Pro is the better. But dollar for dollar , the Ace gives high value for the price.
In the end I keep the Sniper on the Ace, take it along with what ever else I'm hunting. So just saying, if you already have one of the Aces. Not ready to shell out for a Pro / Max. Get that Sniper coil.
If you have a Pro / Max, seriously get that 5x8 coil, you might not take it off.
Oh, and I do hope none of you hunt around my area. Just kidding!

Great article! I used to years ago ( and still do ) take the ACE 250 with the 4" sniper coil along, sometimes in my back pack for relic hunts. It was an excellent tool to use, especially in the woods. You could crank that coil up to full sensitivity and it was hot on tiny targets. Sometimes switching or adding a coil is like purchasing a new metal detector. And very inexpensive.

He he!! No need to tell you how much I love it- for 10+ years. I will add the Relics mode is awesome, if you don't wanna listen to the iron grunts in a/m mode. In tot lots I,will have to admit the a/m mode is nice for gold.

I've never tried the sniper on my Ace 250. Sounds interesting. I do have them for my Explorer XS,MXT and an old Garrett CX 3 and CX +. The CX 3 can be tuned to go just about anywhere anytime, though it can't separate like my AT with that lil 5x8 coil. I'm gonna have to give that a try on my lil Ace. Though I'm thinking about picking up the lil Ace 300,since they've discontinued it. Might be a special lil thing with a sniper coil on it, the vdi's and modulated audio make it a lil more interesting for this purpose. Also the sale price is less than what I paid for my Ace 250 orginally.

I'm a lil confuzed. AM or relic mode with an Ace 250 or AT Pro? I've run custom wide open . But I thought that was still a form of discrimination? My At Pro dus not have relic mode. My MXT dus however have relic mode which I have a sniper coil for. I do find my Mojave works very nicely around large metal, and has almost no peers in rusty nails. Even better than my AT. I will be getting the lil 4 inch for it shortly, as I've come to understand it's even hotter.

So could someone help me understand relic and AM mode with the AT Pro? I'd love to learn some new tricks.

Don't know about the AT Pro but my custom mode on the Ace is user settable and remains that way until changed. You can customize the discrimination to vary for special sites. For instance, I set mine up just like the Relics mode but with tabs discriminated out so I can still get nickels and gold that falls in the foil region AND STILL have the screen for probable ID. Then, I can, with just a push or two of a button, switch there in high trash areas. The Ace may not be the most powerful detector, but it's one of the most versatile.

Thanks Slingshot,
In custom, nothing notched out. Is that true all metal, like the AT Gold?
I thought there was still some kind of or amount of discrimination.
And yes the 250 is quite versatile. Found my first piece of real jewelry with it years ago when it was a now hot item.
