Comparing ACE 250 to ACE350

Hello all,
I am new to all of this metal detecting but feel it has to be more rewarding than the golf course. I am ready to pop right now for a new Garrett but am torn between the Ace 250 and the 350. Does anyone have any input as to if the 350 is worth the extra $85. Thank you in advance.

[size=large]it all depends on what you use it for. i'd say yes it is worth the extra. you're getting a lot for that extra few bucks.

From my time on the ace250 its a coin killer with the 6.5 khz! With the three tones I run it in AM mode and don't look at the screen!

Hi Paul
Welcome to the forum. The Ace 250 is a great little machine and has been a real workhorse in the field. A friend of mine has an ACE 350 and although it is also a great machine, the 350 doesn't have that much more to offer. I can't tell if it goes any deeper or finds coins better. Some people say it does go deeper and has better discrimination. Comparing the both of them in a coin garden would convince me, but at this point that hasn't happened and I'm not sold on paying the extra money for a supposed upgraded 250. I know there are people who say the 350 is great, but your question is asking for a comparison between the two and all I can tell you is what my friend tells me. Once again, I don't know if I would pay the extra money. Dennis

Maybe if I were hunting deep all the time but I mostly hunt at parks. The Sniper coil is great also. If I did more relic hunting I'd pick up they're biggest coil. Right now, I think the standard coil for the ACE 250 gives the most bang for the buck.

I would look at the type of ground you will be dealing with and what you intend to mostly hunt for. If your main goal is coins in normal soil or freshwater beaches, then the 250. If your area has more mineralization or you want mostly relics, then the 350. If you aren't sure what you want to hunt, then I'd start with the 250 and add a little more money to get the Pro-Pointer.

Thanks to most of you for actual useful input. It is appreciated when people share their knowledge with those of us who are new. I will mainly be dealing with red clay in Oklahoma. Since I am new, I am not sure what else I could use a metal detector for but detecting metal objects buried below the earth. Not so sure it would work for scratching my back or washing the dog. I think the pro pointer is exactly the accessory I will be getting.

I have asked the same question and have read all I can about it. Not one suggested the 350. Not that it is a bad unit at all. Just not a big enough difference to justify an extra $100.

I was reccomended the 350 because of the DD coil and it has been a great detector for me I have only had it for a few weeks but have had great luck with it so far I have found 2 Silver Washingtons 2 silver Roosevelts 1 Barber 1 Buffalo and about 10 Wheats. With that said I plan to upgrade to the AT-Pro in a few days and give my wife the Ace 350
