I have been following the Etrac and CTX forums for quite some time now and it seems to me that what I see being found and the expense for each detector, that the Etrac comes in at a definite choice to spend your money on. The quantity of old and silver items found go strongly to the Etrac. So if you are thinking of an upgrade from Etrac to CTX, save your money and be glad that you have an Etrac...

There are a LOT more etracs in use then ctx's, which adds up to many more posts about finding silver in favor of the etrac.
Not to mention, the same reasons for choosing an etrac over a ctx could be said for choosing an explorer over an etrac.
Personally, I love the performance of the FBS platform but was never a fan of the previous machines' ergonomics. It's the main reason why I probably wouldn't be swinging a minelab if I wasn't swinging a ctx.

I wouldn't consider the forums the endall of information on finds. Or even a representative sample.

MY 2 CENTS ON THIS

both detectors are good but 4 my money THE CTX is tops !!! the ids are better and i dont dig as many nails as i did with the E-TRAC

so if you have the money go with CTX !!! if $$$$ is a problem go E-TRAC because its the next best choice .

and thats the truth !

You are clearly being a forum troll and this thread will disappear soon but I will ask anyways. Have you ever used a CTX let alone an ETRAC?

Wow, I'm glad to know that. I upgraded from the ETrac that I've used for 8 years to the CTX. I'm going back over the places I've worked hard for years and finding lots of stuff I've missed. I'm not a newby and know what I'm doing so it's not the operator. The CTX is the best hands down. I'm getting ready to sell my beloved ETac from Ireland as I've proven to myself I made a smart move. If you need help learning how to use a CTX maybe someone will offer to help you, it's really not that hard

Agree...the Etrac is a great unit. But go drop it in the water and see how long she runs! A waterproof unit will ALWAYS cost significantly more.
And I agree with Indy...your a troll.

I love my etrac. It is dirty , scratched , the stand is all bent up and the decals are rubbed off. The warranty is long gone but it has found more things than I would have ever imagined and it is clearly my favorite and first choice in detectors. When someone asks me what is the best all around detector and superior to most in even specific situations , I reach in the back of my truck and pull out the CTX.

Honestly. The reason I just (yesterday) upgraded to the ctx was the balnce of the ctx is much better. The etrac is a poorly designed machine when it comes to the balance of it. Switching arms every 10 minutes is rather tedious. I also like the added functionality of the gps, target trace, superior target ID, tone assignment, waterproof, and color display. In the end I'll figure out if it was worth it, but i think the comfort of my swinging arm was worth the upgrade.
