Compadre's disc accuracy question?

I ve been reading all the wonderful opinions about the compadre and couldn't stand it anymore so I had to buy a new one with the 8 in coil to see if it really is that good. Well, it came yesterday and I took it out for a short test run today. I have to say that so far I'm a little disappointed in it as far as the accuracy of the disc goes. When air testing it seems just fine but today I dug a few good signals that didn't disappear even with the disc turned all the way up. At best it just broke up a little but that's about it. I was pretty sure it they would be a coins but as it turns out both were nothing more than small pieces of foil. After I dug then out of the ground they would disc out at the foil mark but not while they were buried. I thought that was pretty strange. And no there wasn't anything else buried by the foil. Has this happened to any of you other compadre users? Any ideas what might be going on?

Weird.

I have the 7" coil and I don't recall that one ever doing that...foil discs out every time I can remember and I come across and dig a bunch of that.
I did swing an 8" coil model for a few weeks last summer and did notice that the disc didn't seem quite as razor sharp on some targets like zincolns as mine.
On my unit they will disc out at exactly the same place every time, (3:00), where there was a little more play in the area of the disc knob on some of these on the 8", but it wasn't all that off and not a deal breaker by any means, and I don't recall ever being surprised on targets coming in at strange places or not discing out where they should when I swung the new one.
Except for a few nickels, but those are and can be a little weird on all detectors I have used.
But small foil, never.

Where these actually foil pieces or small pieces of thicker can slaw?
Not that it matters much, both types should disc out at max, but I am curious and if there is any other strange behavior you have noticed on other target types please share this as more data could be helpful in figuring this out...maybe.

did you crank the sensitivity up ? or maybe a big something down deeper that does not sound right , foil is easy to disc out , haven used the compadre in a long to

That is strange, the only thing I have noticed on some of the Compadres that I have used is the dial would be off a tad. For instance the nickel wouldn't disc. out at the nickel mark on the dial, I would take an allen wrench and loosed the set screw on the dial and move it to where the nickel would disc. out and retighten the set screw. I am wondering if there wasn't something very large as foil easily can be discriminated.

I dug about 5 targets and none of them would disc out completely. The first was a dime then a rusty Bobby pin that were in a rocky tot lot. Then I moved to the grassy area and dug the foil targets. They were that flimsy type of foil they use to wrap the Easter candy eggs in and only about an inch or two deep. The signals got a little worse with high disc but were still repeatable. I had other signals that didn't sound so good that I passed over. I hunted with the disc set at right about iron at first. I'm not ready to give up on it yet and will try it out some more. I really want to love this thing. Maybe there were other targets nearby that I didn't notice. Also the compadre and my pro pointer don't get along at all.

monte@stinkwaterwells.com and we can discuss a couple of things to check regarding your Compadre.
