I am new to metal detecting. This weekend,I searched an old farm.Lots of horse tack items, foil bits and junk. I finally hit a nickle. There was another signal at the same spot but I was not finding another coin.I went back the next day to recheck the spot since the nickle was a 1958. I pulled this ring out of the same spot.[attachment 331568 025.JPG][attachment 331572 DSCN0192.JPG]

I couldn'tn't pick the ring up past iron setting ?It was 6-7" deep.I never set towards all metal but did after reading Ken's post on the compadre setting.

Very nice find. Many times the compadre will surprise you. If the area is full of junk, turn the disc up a little to hunt for coins. After a while you will get that coin sound in your head. Than you can turn the disc down to all metal and listen for that coin sound. Try to turn the disc knob up till the beep goes away. Now turn it back toward all metal to see where it comes back in. Remember that spot. Dig it to see what it is. Keep doing this thumbing the knob a lot. You will get good at it in no time. This will help a lot. You will learn that trash sound and a coin sound. That is what we mean that your detector is talking to you. It takes time. You will get it. Get out, slow down and play... Have fun. Hope to see more good finds. We like pictures. Also, take pictures of the trash. Down load the pictures on your computer and give that a name for reference... KEN

That was my second junk ring, eventually,I hope to find a good ring. Yes, pepsi twist caps, pull tabs and pennies are everywhere here. Here is a pic of my first junk ring .[attachment 331626 019.JPG]

OOPS ,double post.

See that new pull tab someone broke off a can? On my high dollar VID machines it rings up the same as a ladies 14k gold ring I found.

Keep digging trash!

That's why the Compadre is so successful-some rings, gold mimic trash!
