Compadre

Well I guess I will find out how well the Compadre works as my AT Pro just died and I sold my other two detectors for funds toward another detector. Luckily I just traded with Richard at Backwoods for the 5.75" Compadre, which I will receive tomorrow. I got it to detect some tot lots during the summer months as its too hot here in Alabama and too many snakes to hunt my older relic sites in the woods. I will be going to one of my older sites this weekend we will see how the good ole Compadre works.

Pack up your control box and the coil and ship it off to Garrett. They will treat you right and find the problem. Their service is the best of the best.

I just got a compadre too!!! Got the 8 in coil for multipurpose hunting. Seen videos that they are still good for to lots and trashy areas but also for larger areas. I agree about at least contacting garrett about it, unless that's the unit you traded to get the compadre. If so then it doesn't matter lol.
But I haven't even gotten to hunt really with mine. Just did some bench testing and stuff. I did go to the sort of front yard of my apartment and run it. My ace 350 went nuts there because it was so trashy. The compadre sounded of a million times, but I was able to isolate each sound even when they were so close together it wasn't even funny.
I hope you enjoy your compadre. Texas tiger digs says it's more zen hunting with it because you're paying attention to the sound rather than the numbers, teens and target ids. I can see that.
I have a thread going that gave some great advice on using the compadre for what it is. It's different than my ace, that's for sure.
Happy hunting!!

I have owned several Tesoro's in my time especially early on in detecting. AJ is right you probably have some EMI issues with the Garrett. I didn't trade my ATP for the Compadre because like Tesoro, Garrett's service is top notch. I will tell you that you will do yourself a great service by keeping the Compadre and learning the way it talks to you. TABDOG, SLINGSHOT,REVIER,HOMBRE etc. have a ton of good advise for you on any model Tesoro. The best advise I can give you through my experience is that when you learn how the tones "talk" to you and you become more proficient with the non TID detector that even if you decide to buy a different TID type detector you will be far ahead of the game because I know with my ATP the tone is the thing I rely on the most. This is hard to explain and I think others can explain it better but your on the right track!

No its in front of an apartment building. No lines near

Hi,
I own a Compadre with ground balance and sens adjustment.
I usually have the sens set at around 7
The real plus is the dual disc - very alike the Fisher 1265, 1266 or 1270
This iS a real bonus as you can flick back and forth from all metal to disc real fast, without having to fiddle with a single disc setting.

skookum

Edit:
Yes, I also have the long shaft and the 8 inch coil for it.

Possible, but with the copadre it's just many sounds and I can disc many f them out. I seriously think it's just because it's ground in front of a 60 year old apartment building with lots of trash.
What u meant was the ace has too slow of recovery time to be able to pick separate tones. It's just all over. The compadre can get each and every little one and I can discsome out too.

yep that's the last option  never used the Garrett so the one knob wonder kicks its but without even digging a target gotta be happy with that  or the very last option something wrong with the Garrett ? or is it just slow?

AJ

I really have no basis of comparison, but I think it's just too slow to separate the stuff out. Literally there is a piece of trash about every inch or two lol. Just too much for it I guess.
With compadre it just sounds like hundreds of beeps lol.

yep I know the place junks vile , toss the garret (sell it) then and get anther Tesoro  even a new F11 from fisher will kick the garrets butt (speed wise) if you want an ID machine.

all that's left to do now is get out to the park and start digging find a quite park disc up high on the compadre and bring home a few quarters and gain some confidence and have some fun it will build from there.

AJ

Well I'm not quite ready to sell it. Lol.
It does irritate me sometimes, but it has value. At the very least for a newbie to use and be fainted that it makes different tones when it finds metal.
I joke of course. I'll probably end up giving it away to my nephew as I progress up to a fors core (or relic).
I don't doubt that I'll have more tesoro in my future, but I really like the look and the video reviews on these machines.
My budget over time can allow for more machines.
I know it's blasphemy to speak of another brand here, but I had my eye on that one before buying my compadre, but couldn't pass up the price/value point of the compadre.
