does the compadre perform better or worse when you change the coil? i was planning on getting a clean sweap coil to use with it.. dont know if it makes a difference but i have the 7' coil currently

I don't know if the Compadre could perform any Better. It is pretty good as is, and you have a good coil on it. I have the 5.75" on my new on but i think i liked the one i had with the 7" better. Just a little more coverage with it. But they are both really good.

im thinking if it still picks up the gold with the cleansweep coil as good as it does with the stock coil i can cover alot more ground in less time and find more (hopefully)

Yea, that would be nice. I am still waiting to hear from someone that has done it to see what they say, but so far, no replies.

aint broke dont fix it
i was gonna try putting a clean sweep om my compadre but i went & got a silver instead
the compadre works great with the 5.75 coil :detecting:
best left alone

I picked up a Compadre a while ago with the 9x8 coil already wired in. Ground balance check (using the power balancing method) indicated that it was already set where it need to be for the ground that is typical of my hunting areas. I increased the sensitivity a little with the internal pot until it was just starting to chat a little over the ground. When the coil is swept over a target it quiets right down and sounds off well on the target.

Before adjusting I was getting an air test of 10 inches on a quarter with the discriminator set on foil and 8 inches on a nickle. After adjusting I was getting 11 on the quarter and about 9 inches on the nickle. If I turn the discriminator down to all metal it chatters a little more and did not seem to make any difference in air test on the quarter and a very slight difference ... maybe 1/4 inch if any on the nickle.

I don't have one with a different coil to compare it to, but have pulled quarters with solid detection beeps out of wood chips at measured 8 inches and nickles at 7 inches. With the 9x8 it still finds very tiny pieces of foil and things like earring backs.

Down sides of the bigger coil and higher sensitivity setting are that it does not do so well in separating targets in trashy areas and it does not get very close to equipment poles and fences.

I am thinking a 7 inch coil may be the best compromise except for the really trashy areas, then the 5.75 inch coil would be my choice.

Based on using a cleansweep on a Tejon and Cibola, I would expect to loose 2 to 3 inches in detection depth but it sure covers a lot more ground.

My opinion is that, unless you want to put connectors on the Compadre, I'd keep the 7 inch coil on it and look at picking up another detector with a connector to hook a clean sweep to. Take both detectors with you on hunts and use the one that best matches the part of the site you are hunting at the time.
Cheers,
