Im going to buy my son and nephew metal detectors for their birthdays and im thinking about the compadre but we live 15 miles from the beach so we plan on going there alot. Im worried about the lack of sensitivy setting and wonder how it will perfrom on the beach, im also thinking about the fisher f2 and my budget is 200.00 so I know im limited. Does anyone know anything about the compadre on the beach?

I had a Compadre used it on the Beach in the dry dunes never had any issues with falsing and got good depth

I used a compadre for a whole summer its good to 4" on coins ,, now i have heard you can take off the cover and turn the sensitivity up thear is a pot for sensitivity, I wish the compadre had a three tone adio ID and a good sensitivity knob that would make all the diff not to mention interchangable coils maybe an ace 150 would be better It would get better depth and i have heard the 4.5 sniper coil is good to 6" on coins if you can stand the bell tone

get the compadre lifetime warranty and they honor it i can vouch for that! the disc mode i think is about the best, get them concentrating on listening for the signal, they have youg ears they will detect the crackles better and decipher the smooth signals, tids are ok but this is just my opinion i think there about 40% accurate most the time

If this is their first detector, the F2 is the better choice. Kids like gadget controls and the display is a plus. And the newer Compadres have a 5.75 coil, something you won't want at the beach over the larger 8" coil. Neither detector is going to do good in the wet sand at the beach. If you can go a few bucks more, the ACE 250 is worth it.

Hope that helps.

The Compadre will be the best choice for small gold jewelry and coins at the beach.

Just a question of search frequency.

Got tiny 18K bracelet yesterday during my first outing with my new compadre.

If the meter is a must, then the garrett is noth worth the expense. get an F2.

Can't say about the beach, but I would think you'd want a bigger coil than the Compadre's for more coverage at the beach and the Compadre 5.75 is hard-wired so you can't change coils.

But the Compadre is an EXCELLENT land detector for kids or anyone just starting out.

It's as simple as it gets to use, meaning a kid will find stuff with it right away which is really important.

And you won't find an easier detector to pinpoint with, which is also really important for a young beginner.

I agree with the above...

Kids would be quite impressed with computer display and adjustments to fiddle with.

At the end of a day, they would take lasting memories of success with them forever using a more effective machine.

If unable to purchase a Silver Umax with capability for a larger coil to deal with the vast dry sand area, I would advise the Compadre.
Even 15 miles from the beach. most searching will be done near home.

I'd say compadre or silver if you can swing it.
plus with the compadre there's less for them to srew around with and get out of wak,(so your not resitting things all day).
just my 2cents
