Compadre with 8 inch Coil

DiggerDug

New member
Figured ya might like to check this out. My Compadre can now change coils and I have the 5 3/4 coil with a connector now. Also did some air test outside between rains with the 8 inch coil.

Disc set: Iron / Zn 1C

1c = 9" 1c = 7 1/2"
5c = 10" 5c = x
10c = 8 1/2 " 10c = 7 1/2 "
25c = 9 1/2 " 25c = 8 "
Chucky Cheese Token + 10 1/2 " (Iron)

That's using your noggin:thumbup:. What's your depth comparision using the 5.75 coil?

Where did you get the connecter? How much was it, where did get it and was it hard to wire?

i too would like to know where you got the connector from?that is a mod i wanted to perform,but was warned off by my dealer here in australia,that it wouldn't work,crap!!!,i think,good on ya mate,blowfly

like tabman said, i too have a compadre love it but would love to mod it for a bigger coil what kind of connectors are those and where would i purchase them?

There is a few ways to do this but be warned you will void your warranty if you you do any mods to this detector. With that out of the way, you can go in the box and wire on to the board a male connector. The link is here for that :compadre mod or you can buy a 5 pin umax cable extension like I did and remove the wires from the connector. I put the male side on the 5 3/4 coil that was wired on the Compadre when I got it. And the female conector on the cable coming from the box. It's a pain connecting the little wires on the connectors. Or you can cut the extension cable and solder it to the board. So now I have a Compadre with 2 coils for the price of a Silver uMax. The best part is it's 12 khz and is killer on coins and gold.

thanks for the quick reply DD. have also viewed your three videos on youtube and they were very helpful, especially the air test on the cibola. will own one now after the first of the year.

Balance with the 8" is realy good. Enough to keep the coil down but not enough to wear your arm out.

Nice job DiggerDug, have you used the Compadre w/the 8" coil on a hunt yet & if so how is the depth, sensitivity to targets,etc. This might be something that I might consider trying. Steve.

I took it out to a local park for an hour, between rains. Found some clad loud and clear. But the best find was a 1945 Wheat down 5". First old coin I have found there. Was a solid hit too. 5" in the red clay of north Ga is a good find for any detector. Checked some of the smaller finds I had from tot lots with the 5 3/4" coil. Still got signals on the smallest things. A small 10k Butterfly pendant I found with the small coil air tested at 5". I get a solid
6 1/2" with the 8". So needless to say I am very happy with this mod. Plus I still have the 5 3/4" coil with a connector now.
