Compadre with 8" coil

Hello everyone,
I readed somewhere that the Tesoro Compadre is a better machine with the 5.75 & 7" coil.... Some people even said to not buy the Compadre with the 8" coil. Is it true that the Compadre is not as good with the 8" coil ?
Does the Tesoro DeLeon goes deeper than the Compadre ?
Thanks you all for your help & advice as i'm a noobie & i research before buying my first a MD (either the Compadre or DeLeon)
Happy hunting
Rejean

I have the 7" coil model and love it.
I did try the 8" coil version for two weeks and it seemed fine...maybe even a bit deeper than mine.
The disc did seem to me to be a hair more sloppy, not a deal breaker by any means but on mine zincolns are always in the same place when I dial past and then down to the fade in point at exactly the 3:00 area.
The 8" had a tiny bit more play with a few a little higher and a few a little lower but again not a big deal.
I assume the donut coil had something to do with that.

As far as it's special super powers the 8" was the same as my unit where it could snake in and around trash easily plus the double beep you get when locating targets near, next to or even leaning on big metal in tot lots, fence poles or bench legs seemed exactly the same.
I mean exact with no difference that I could see.
If you only had a Compadre in the arsenal for just this ability it would be more than well worth it because I can't get any other detector, coil or setting combination to do this at all or as well as the Compadre can and that thing does it so effortlessly.
The big coil seems super sensitive on small targets, covers large area a bit more efficiently and does that double beep thing so if I didn't have mine I am sure I would be happy with either other model but I like to hunt trashy spots so the smaller coils are my favorites.

I would assume the Deleon would be deeper than the Compadre, my Vaq definitely is but I never swung the "D".

I had a old Compadre control box laying around and a 4'' and 7'' Concentric coils laying around so just through them together, mainly just use the 4'' coil on the machine these days either for fresh water hunting for roman votive offerings in fords and river crossings or as a pinpoint probe when i use a large Pulse machine, just carry the short shaft from my belt then can use it for locating deep targets.

It does work well with the 4'' coil but would not use it as a everyday machine but mainly specific site situations.

Compadre is a good entry level machine, if anything is within the first 6" you'll find it.
Tesoros are one of the best non-metered detectors in locating Canadian clad coins!!!!!!
The older Compadre with the 7" coil is the best if you can find one. The only choice these days is either the 5.75" coil or the 8" coil.
So you want the 5.75" coil model. If you want a bit more depth you move up to the Silver Umax with the 8" coil.
Both have fixed ground balance, your soils are not that mineralized to worry about.

The Deleon is the the metered machine by Tesoro that guys love as it also loves Canadian clad. It also has fixed ground balance.
For the price there are far better machines out there if looking for a metered machine. A Teknetics Omega from Canadian Tire when on sale is a great entry level machine
for Canada. I actually liked the Delta better I had than the Omega 8000 I had.

If your looking to buy a Tesoro and not worry about depth, mineralization or the need to upgrade, just buy a Vaquaro. Lots of guys up here use them for relic hunting,
looking for Fur Trade artifacts and they can be small.

Wow! thanks everyone for your help....Revier & Sven, i readed some of your posts here on this Forum, i learn a lot from reading them...my brain is accumalating all this knowledge...Thanks you guys....It's so fun to learn about this hobby... Can't wait for the snow to melt, & go on my first hunt.....
