Compadre with 8" coil.

Finally got a Compadre with the brown 8" coil.

Can't wait to test it this week end, but I am already impressed by the depth achieved by this little machine. It air tests 9" on some large euro coins with a good, audible signal.

Seems to be excellent for thin jewellery I could only find with no-motion units.

The Compadre I've got has the 9 x 8 concentric on it.
Surprisingly deep and discriminator cuts things out sharply and accurately.
Great for tot lots, a quick grab and go hunt, or to hand to a beginner and know that they can find good targets with it and feel successful.

Found a nice and very unexpected Indian with this Compadre.

Keep us posted on how you do with yours.

tvr, where did you come up with a compadre with that coil on it? that is a sweet little machine!..........thanks..........roger

Yep!, the Compadre with the 8x9 coil exists here too, but it is black and has a second knob for target volume.

Here's a pic of mine, with its brown donut coil.

Plus the result of its maiden voyage this morning.

Found 81 coins (16,62 euro) and one small 18K gold bracelet.

Nice start, the Compadre was very stable on a very iron infested site, and it's definitely a coin-killer.

joe dirt_1, where did I come up with it?

I had been looking for a used Compadre with thoughts of putting a connector on it so coils could be changed. The used ones were going for near new prices so I waited. Looked for about 6 months. Then when I saw the Compadre modified with the 9 x 8 coil for a reasonable price come up on one of the forums, I jumped on it. The 9 x 8 is hard wired in and is just a swap out for the standard coil, no connector.

I may add a connector, I may not. I kind of like it with this coil in most places.

Concentric coils around the 8", like this 8x9 or the brown donut 8", are generally the best all-round coils available. Other, like the 12x10, wide scan coils or the smaller ones, are specialty coils.

In only six hours of hunting those last two days, the Compadre found me 142 coins, the gold arm lace, and two silver heart pendants.

Being a beach hunter, I do not see why I would want to change coils on this unit. Besides, the model with interchangeable coils exists in Europe. (Laser Scout).

All in all, I'm very pleased with this unit. Bought as a backup, might get promotion very soon !
