Compadre warranty

My Compadre's coil cracked a couple of years ago. I read that broken coils are not covered by the life-time warranty, so I used epoxy to repair my cracked coil. Recently my detector do started only powering up occasionally even with a new battery. I called Tesoro and they said it was probably a bad switch and an easy fix. I mentioned how I repaired my coil, since coils aren't covered warranty wise if they break and they told me I may have voided my warranty because I repaired my coil. I did not open my machine. I only glued my broken coil so I could still use my detector. I don't understand why this would possibly void my warranty?
Has anyone had any of these issues?

Yes this is true! I was even told by a certain manufacturer that using O-ring lube on their battery sealing O-ring would void the warranty. Sometimes we "overthink" things I guess! Tesoro covers the machine from head to toe for the Original owner only. I think a phone call before would have saved the trouble of epoxying yourself
