Compadre Vs Vaquero

from what i have heard and seen on videos. the compadre can get close to metal fences, posts, benches, etc. a vaquero will do off within about 18 inches from them.

Comparing these two detectors would be like comparing apples to oranges. i like both equally well, but for different reasons. This question always goes back to asking yourself some of the basics. What kind of hunting do you plan to do more with your detector? If you are planning on tot lots and small areas near metal structures and smaller areas the compadre is hard to beat. If you are wanting something with depth and ground coverage you are looking for the vaquero. 2nd, how familiar are you with using Tesoros? The vaquero is more complex than the Compadre for a first time tesoro user. It has manual ground balance and a few more switches and knobs. The compadre is simple turn on and go with a preset ground balance and only one knob to fiddle with and you are hunting In seconds. 3rd, what kind of treasure are you planning to go after. If you are a coin shooter for older coins and also for relics that are deeper in the ground, I would say vaquero. The compadre has found me some older stuff, including silver coins, but that is only when I do the research and the targets are only so deep. If you are wanting to hunt for jewelry in parks, yards or tot lots or clad coins and don't have a desire to dig a pull tab at 7" I would get a compadre. I don't mind digging deep, but there are days I just want to recover the target quickly and move on. The compadre has found me more gold and silver items and the smallest pieces as well as the larger pieces than any other detector I have had in the past or that I have now. Not to mention finding a 1935 D buffalo Nickle, a 1945 S war Nickle and other silver coins. If you want to hunt for gold or silver jewelry I would say Compadre. There are many other questions that I could ask myself to decide which of these 2 detectors to purchase, but the last one I will throw out there is , how often do you plan to use your detector, or how much time will you get to use it? I don't get out all that much to detect these days, so having a detector that works amazingly well, cost me only $160 and at a certain depth can find me all the goodies, the compadre was just a no brainer. However, they are both great detectors and you are going to like either one. These are just my opinions and hopefully others will chime in. These are just some questions I like to ask myself before making a new detector purchase and I have found them helpful. Good luck and best wishes.

Both great and comparable for general hunting, but each has a few abilities the other lacks.
They both find chains, the Compadre is slightly better.
Coins rings and whatever else both great within the depth range of the Compadre.
The Compadre can find the really tiny micro jewelry very easily, the Vaq comes real close if you mount the sniper coil.
The Vaq is deeper, surprisingly deep with the sniper coils, too, so if deep targets are what you are after the V is the one.
Nothing can find targets near, next to or even leaning on big metal like tot lot equipment or fence posts like the Compadre.
Nothing, no detectors with any coils using any settings including other Tesoros.

Skimming along hunting regular sites like parks looking for targets that are shallow to not super deep either will work.
Hunt fence lines and tot lots looking for the most success and needing to go deep with decent tones and signals you need both.
That's my thinking, anyway, so I do have both in the arsenal.
Between the two they have easily found me enough clad and gold jewelry to easily pay for both units a few times over and I only use them part time.

I also have both. 90% of the time I use the compadre. I hunt a lot of tot lots and parks. Sometimes a house. I only want to get out and have fun. About 40 years of hunting and finding a lot of silver coins and jewelry, It is time I slow down and have fun. I am getting older and broken down. I do use a silver uMax sometimes. So My vaquero with stock coil and 5 3/4" concentric is for sale. I just don't use it. Thanks for reading... KEN Ind.

I'll say one thing about the Compadre, the machine is awesome and with a little tweaking you can get some extra depth out of them. Now on the other hand the Vaquero is a fantastic machine that compares in depth wise to many machines of higher amounts. For simplicity,Compadre for more advanced hunting and much greater depth,Vaquero...
