compadre vs silver umax

piropiro

New member
hello to all .... I am writing from Italy and wanted advice from experts: it is better to a compadre or silver umax?
thanks, Antonio, northern italy

It depends on the type of hunting and the

conditions you will be hunting.

In my opinion:

The Silver is a roamer. Good all around coin shooting,
Jewelry hunting and it will do relics and artifacts.
Good selection of coils.
The Silver naturally rejects a lot of small iron without the
loss of depth.
I think the Silver goes a little deeper than Compadre.

The Compadre is a trash master. Nothing works this well
for several times the price.
In the US, coils can not be change, but it has a good coil.
I have four Tesoro's. The Compadre is the one that brings
home the bacon.
I find that there are good finds in trashy places that are hard
to hunt. The Compadre is my MD of choice for this type
of hunting.
The Compadre accepts all metals. No natural rejection.
Great for small gold jewelry. More sensitive to gold than
most so called gold machines.

Both these machines are fine for coin, jewelry and artifact
hunting.

They are good on beaches, but not salty wet sand.

HH,

thank you for info, I must say that I use for the coin shooting in parks, picnic area, and to have always seen the m

You may be more happy with the Silver.

It is the metal detector of choice for many

succsesful park hunting people.

That is why I have a Silver.

HH,

From what I hear, the Compadre has cleaner rejection, while the Silver likes to sputter on reject items. What I like about my Silver is the dual mode comparison that one can do by switching from disc to all metal. Ken Whitener from Oklahoma, as far as I know discovered this technique around the 70's-80's with, I believe, a Tesoro Mayan. Back then, the disc and all metal modes did not reach the same depths and by setting the disc mode at a low level, he could with a high degree of reliability tell the difference between coins, pulltabs, and nickels. As technology improved, both modes became about equal and some of this ability was lost. However, some trash items will get louder when switched to allmetal, some nickels, and alas, some tabs will remain about the same. The key area is the coin area-and two soft tones that are smooth are usually something good- and silver will get SOFTER in all metal-and these finds are usually DEEP.
