You were asking me about my settings, etc. when using my Compadre. I told you that I turned the knob to the i in iron. Yesterday I had more time than normal to hunt & try different things, I was in a tot lot that was all wood chips that was surrounded with 4x4 beams, and about every 6 inches was an either a large nail or a small bolt securing the 4x4's in place. I turned my disc. all the way down as far as it would go and began scanning my coil over one of the bolts in the 4x4's turning the dial up slowly without looking at where the dial was, the spot where the bolt quit responding was right in the middle between all metal and iron. So now when hunting I will be setting my dial to that spot instead of on the i in iron. Just thought I would pass this along. Steve.

Ours must be set a little differently-I pick up some iron bolts at a spot about 1/4" before the "i" in iron. Also found some small sockets used on ratchets. But ain't it fun finding out all this stuff with that machine-I feel like a rejuvenated little kid with his first detector. And I'm starting to really find a lot of nickels AND dimes that others are missing. Thanks-and if I find anything else interesting I'll pass it on-never had so much fun detecting.

Slingshot, your statement caught my interest (related to my "nickle post"). Are you using your 1st Tesoro brand MD and noticing this?

No. I have the Silver umax and the Royal Sabre and have noticed a somewhat increased sound on nickels with those-only iron and other masking targets sort of take the "oomph" off the signal. With the Compadre set near it's low iron rejection it basically is much less affected, according to my results, by all this target masking and some of the nickels that have a scratchy tone because of this are smooth with the Compadre. I have found several that are really dark and rather deep (4"). Same with the dimes-which if I had another detector I would advise everyone to really overlap to find these dimes that everyone's passing over.
