we bought my brother a compadre for his birthday and its a very nice detector, usually when he cant go out with me and my dad (we both own a cortes) one of use will use the compadre.... well now i want one lol, but my only problem is the coil isnt big enough for hitting the big soccer and football fields. why dont tesoro design the detector so that you could put a larger coil on it, and is anyone out the modifying theirs so you can use a bigger coil?

I KNOW BY MODIFYING THE DETECT IT VOIDS THE WARRANTY BUT IM NOT REALLY CONCERNED WITH THAT ON $160 DETECTOR

THANKS IN ADVANCE

Just remember that you will void your warranty if you do that.

What's funny is that in foreign markets you can buy a Compadre with an 8" coil, but they will not sell one here.

Now if you can buy one in New Zealand, why not Florida or Texas?

It makes you wonder. Which would be the better detector? A Compadre with the ability to change coils or the Silver???????

Compadre.

I'm thinking the hardwired coil on the Compadre is part of the low price. It's a pretty effective detector for the price, as is, and one can always move up a model or two if the need for coil changes is important.

9x8 inch coil, hard wired in. I bought it already modified like this and have not yet added a connector. Have found a couple of quarters at 7 to 8 inches in the wood chips with this set up. Can't get as close to play ground equipment but can cover more area. It is not the way to go when it gets trashy. I'm thinking a 7 inch coil may be a very good compromise size.

Tesoro says they market the larger coil in Europe because they want the greater depth due to their hunting conditions.

Like we don't?

It was on a forum classified about 2.5 years ago. Was my early Christmas present in 2008. I don't think it will leave my hands for at least a few more years.

have you found any gold with it? and are you going to put those adapters on it so you can change the coil or are you gonna leave it the way it is?

You are thinking correctly about the 7 inch coil being a good compromise. I have the 7 concentric coil on my Eldorado and I can't be more please with it. The 7 inch coil is big enough so you won't be overwhelmed by a large area and it's still small enough to handle to those really trashy areas. The older Tesoro Compadre came with a 7 inch hard wired coil.

due to the turbulent history in the UK and Europe you can make finds going back 1000s of years ,and they can be shallow or deep so thats why they want the extra depth .serious money can be made on a good deep find. millions of pounds are possible hence the burning desire for depth !
