Compadre rocks the competition

I went to my first club comp today and rocked it with the Compadre. I found 4 tokens which went for 2 proof sets, an uncirculated set, and a set of medals. Also found 19 wheat pennies, 2 steel pennies, some modern non hunt clad, some tokens and foreign coins and my favorite 2 Indian heads and first ever silver coin a beautiful 1944 merc. Wish I could have found my first silver in a non planted situation but I am thrilled all the same. Thanks for the advice to use my Compadre.

Now that is nice work with your Compadre. Congrats

We had a detecting club in my area at one time and we had several competition hunts, one of the hunts I found the grand prize token a gold painted quarter. My wife seen it come out of the ground and she gabbed it and took off, her body was going faster than her feet, she hit the dirt face down. We had a lot of fun, wish we still had a club.

I have a hunt coming up next month.
All silver coins are going to be about 3" deep, (according to other members), and there will be plenty of them going into my treasure pocket because I am also going to use the Compadre!

Ok I'm going back before the compadre came out, I'm reaching in my back closet and pulling out my amingo, who old schoolers remembers that little unit? I guess I'm a old fart with a lot of toys to play with, but this unit reminds me somewhat of the sovereign gt with the up right handle, with this many toys I know I can stay out of trouble ! I did put my 10+12 concentric coil off my silver umax and put it on my Gumax to see how it will do, I had to many service calls to do today to do, so I will defiantly go out tomorrow and play, HH hank

It is in mint condition, I like it and I almost forgot about it, all I need for the Gumax is a 4" coil and a 5.75 coil , and I would be set.

Nice Job Machineman. I can't say enough good about my Compadre. It is my favorite detector to take out on my hunts right now. Can't wait to get my Silver Sabre Umax back from Tesoro. Had to send it in to be recalibrated and to find out why it was getting less depth than the Compadre with the Silver Sabre having an 8" coil on it. I do not think of my Compadre as my back up detector. I think of it as my go to detector. I think it is funny when people see me detecting in the park with what looks like a kid's toy. No flashy screen, no bells and whistles and looks like nothing fancy. I am happy to let them scoff if they are naive, it just means I will continue to clean up where they have already walked and snatch up the goodies they have missed. Other detectors may come and go, but I will keep my Tesoro's and especially the Compadre. I have found so many amazing things with my Compadre. It has paid for itself over and over again. Can't wait to be a part of a competition hunt some day. Keep finding the good stuff. HH

I got mine used for $100, score!!! I only have one problem with it and it not really a problem. I would like to be able to change coils, but that might take away from what the compadre is.

I think the Compadre is a real good little detector. It will find gold easily, and is an awesome pinpointer, just like the other models in the Tesoro series. I recommend the Compadre for beginners, because it only has discrimination, and isn't as advanced as some of the other models. I used it when i started metal detecting, and have loved it ever since. It's not only a good beginner's detector, but is all together a wonderful machine for any detectorist.

As much as wanting to change the coil is mentioned, I'm surprised Tesoro hasn't done this.
Don't recall the part number, but the part has been available to make it into a changeable coil machine. Don't know how that would affect the warranty, but as inexpensive as they are, it probably wouldn't bother me - but then again, I really like the stock coil.

I have an older 7" coil and I love it!
Perfect for all worlds from tot lots to big parks.
Don't know why they ever changed it.

I bought a new compadre about 4 months ago with a 5" coil. It is used strictly as my tot lot detector.
The second day out, it paid for it's self bringing me an older 10K gold ladies dinner ring crowned with 3 rows of diamonds, at 5 1/2" up under the metal steps of the play structure.
It has been giving ever since. Nothing can hide from this detector. I have 3 hunting friends that have seen this detector in action and have since bought one.
It is by far the best there is, for what it is.

I am known in the neighborhood as the old fart with the metal locator.
This detector disarms people and makes them surrender a smile before they can get excited. It has allowed me excess to tot lots when normally people are uneasy with your presence. They laugh when they ask me if I am finding anything.
If they only knew how much this toy has made me.
