Compadre Question

Hotwire

New member
Like many in this group i also have a Tesoro Compadre. My main interest is detecting gold jewelry in dry sand on the beach. I've read many times that one should dig "everything" to remove any doubts. Besides digging or not digging everything, what setting/settings do you use for gold jewelry detection on dry sandy beaches?

When I am in the sand or a playground, I set mine just below iron. I have found some very tiny gold items. I do dig a lot of junk, but I guess I don't have anything else to do. Better that sitting on my butt and do nothing. I could mow the yard. That sounds like work. I will dig junk... KEN

Ken you and I must be cast from the same mould. I will get a Compadre next and then I'm already thinking about that Tiger. You are a very bad man.

Thanks Ken for reminding me that I have to mow the yard

Hotwire, get a had sand scoop and turn that sensitivity way down. It's not like digging in the sod. You just scoop, shake the sand out, and pluck the goods or trash from the scoop.

Tabmagnet don't think about the Tiger, just buy it. It is one sweet water detector and doesn't miss a thing. For the dollar compared to the other water detectors the Tiger is a steal. I have the 10" coil for greater coverage and depth. If it beeps you scoop. The depth is amazing on this thing. Make sure to budget for a high quality stainless steel scoop, you will need it!

Mine still needs mowed. Now they are calling for rain. Guess I will just go play with my COMPADRE... KEN

Do what Rainy said !!! Just buy the dang thing. Coil size is up to you. I like the 8" coil. You will need a GOOD scoop. Pay the extra money for a good one. I had many water detectors,, Fisher 1280..Too top heavy for me... Whites Surfmaster II. Used that for many years. Done very good with it,,, Up graded to Mine Lab Excaliber II. Could not sell it fast enough. Top heavy. Knobs would break off. Hated all the music. Tesoro Tiger Shark. Now that is a hell of a detector. It is very deep and very good on small gold that other detectors will miss. You will love it. Like I said, I have used many... KEN

Hi Rainyday101, I can see where a good scoop would make a world of difference, I am still on the waiting list for the new 720i. Rainyday101, how deep in the water do you usually detect?

When I got mine I was playing around with the discrimination and set it where I could just cause a paper clip to click and it would find a penny 2" BELOW that paper clip. So I tried it at a tot lot like that and just couldn't believe the teeny charms, etc. that were there. THEN, I found a gold necklace so thin that my other detectors wouldn't even notice it in all metal. You get to the point where you're afraid NOT to use it.
