Compadre question - Is it really that good???

OK Tesoro folks maybe you can help me. I've been posting on the Garrett section of the site since my current unit is a 1996-97 vintage Ace 100. I'm faced with an iron laced set of yards with two homes circa 1883 and 1890. I live in the 1883. Currently I've got a 5 gallon bucket of nails and other iron dug out of the site. Coin count is decent so far, for me anyway, but I'm wondering if a new machine would help. Not real interested in screens and all sorts of programs. I learned on a much older Garrett and got the Ace years ago for ease of use . But it's got loads of mileage on it. Just a few moments ago I got a call from a friend about the now two Compadre machines he owns. He has the smaller coil and a new one with an 8 inch donut. The pictures he keeps sending via iPhone are needless to say frustrating. Between he and his son those two Compadre wielding gentlemen are cleaning up. His area is like my own so far as trash but he manages much better finds. So which unit would be better the small or large coil? I'm more inclined to think small since I have some brushy areas to check plus under at least one house. Any advice you Tesoro folks have would be appreciated. You all seem a very active group and that tells me you must swing these units on a regular basis.

Thanks in advance

They are very good for trash separation and discrimination, I am not familiar with the ace100 but i can swear by the compadre, you just cant go wrong with it. I hear the 8" is just as good as the 5.75" and you get the added depth. I personally think the 8" might be best for your situation with older finds possibly being deeper than the 5.75" can reach. Honestly you cant go wrong with either. All I can guarantee, is that you will love the Compadre, it sells itself. Good luck!

I second that 8" coil compadre, take care of it and it will sell fast if you don't like it .

I agree that you can not go wrong with either one. The 8" might do you a little better. You will get a little more depth. The compadres are much better on finding smaller gold items .. They are lighter weight than your ace. Even if you don't like your compadre, it has a very good resale ... Trouble is that you will love that detector. Try to hunt for a thread in this section called THE CHURCH of THE COMPADRE.. Just by reading that you will want a compadre.. Have fun with it... KEN

ya the 8" will be best overall cant go rong on eather are thay better hell ya

I have had my compadre less than 2 months 8" coil, i have paid it off x2 with finds. Most of the time not even needing to pinpoint . Get either one ant get ready to be amazed

Hey JMC, seeing how you have all ready removed a bucket of junk out of the way. I would for sure get the 8 in compadre, You will love that thing, I love mine.

Yes I have removed a bucket of junk already and that is just the start. Seems like most folks recommend the 8 inch coil. Deeper for sure but I had thought originally the smaller one would pick around the trash better. However when I got the Barber dime a short time back it was hiding under rusty nails. So now I need to know where to buy this machine. Seems like Kellyco is the place since they carry almost all I'll need, the unit plus a coil cover would be about it.

JMC,

It's a well designed detector + it's simple. The KISS principle.........ONE knob ! With the smaller coil you can get closer to steel posts/fences & playground equipment than other MDer machines, reaping what they miss & can't hear.

The issues most people (probley at least 80%) have with other metaldetectors is they can't figure out how to fine tune (because of all the buttons/knobs) it for opimum hunting in the area there at. So there not getting the most out of their machine.

Is it really that good?

My 7" coil model bought used for $130 has found me about 10X's its cost in clad and jewelry...so far.
Also got me into the 1800's with an old Indian head cent, also, among so many other great targets.

Good isn't the word for this thing...maybe amazing?
