compadre or silver

I am trying to decide on a detector for my soon to be (very small) 7 year old. Which would be better to start with? Silver or compadre? I am a little worried what she will say with no screen (like mine), but I can cross that bridge later. You guys are the tesoro experts so I thought I would start here. Maybe a tesoro isn't even the best choice (gasp! )....Opinions welcome!

My daughter would be getting the Compadre, no doubt. Only one knob to fool with, best bang for your buck, proven, cult following and great resale value. Nothing wrong with the Silver, of course, just my opinion. As far as screens go; again, just another thing to fool with and a distraction. Might wanna "seed" an area in the back yard with good targets to get her hooked before setting her loose to the reality that good targets are the exception and not the rule.

There's not a better starter detector than a Compadre. It's super light weight, it works great, it's very simple to use and you don't ever grow out of it. It's a keeper!

Oh yeah, they're very affordable and hold their value. Just shorten up the rod, turn up the discrimination and turn the kid loose.:detecting:

This spring I was in the same boat with an 8 year old boy. I insisted on the Compadre, he wanted the digital screen. We agreed on the F2. Not a bad detector at all but he found detecting boring. When you take a kid to a park that has slides, play centers, and a beach, their focus quickly shifts from detecting to playing. Now I would have chosen the Compadre hands down, but I figured going the route he wanted to go might keep him detecting longer. After about three times he told me that he thought it was boring and wanted to go play. I let him go play because I have learned that if you try to make them do something they don't want to do, they will never like it. When he is older we will see if he wants to try it again. I waited three weeks to make sure he was sure about his decision before selling the F2 to an intern that works for me. Him and his 13 year old brother have a blast with it.

My vote the Compadre.

Compadre, .5.75 " coal

We have an f2.....that is what she uses now. We know she likes detecting.....now, her brother is a different story. Ace 250 never gets used. She decided on one with no screen. She decided that it wiuld be easier to hear a beep and dig than figure out the screen. I ended up ordering her a silver. Mostly because then if she chamges her mind and decides it is boring....I jave a silver. Got a new one so the warranty will be good for as long as she needs it to be...thanks!

Looks like it should have been the COMPADRE.

Very wise you didn't you didn't force the kid Rainyday!

Sometimes I take my 4 year old nephew on short hunts just to gauge his interest.
He only helps dig, no detector yet.
He loves find the coins, (calls them all pennies).
When we're at home and he is asked what does a metal detector find, he replies "worms!"
Have fun!
Cheers
