Compadre OR Silver Umax,, $ difference worth it?

Hi All, Great website. Originally was going to buy the Silver, but why not the Compadre?. I would like to do my first as inexpensive as possible, but am wondering if the extra 100 dollars would make any difference for me. I plan to search salt beaches and of course here in Indiana too. Besides the lack of interchangebility of coils, why/why not get one over the other? Do they both work equally well in dry sand?? I someday plan to buy a more advanced unit to use in the salt surf/shallow water and on land, but for now I just want one that will work most efficiently in dry sand in the FL panhandle while vacationing twice yearly and around my neck of the woods here in central IN. Thanks for any insight, suggestions or reccomendations. BTW, I have limited experience from 30 yrs ago with Garrett Disc model. Thanks again for any help!

Hi !

According to my experience and that from many people all over the world, I can tell you this :

-The Silver sabre is an excellent metal detector.

-The compadre is a magic wand.

My advice : buy the compadre, you won't be sorry. If you upgrade later, keep your compadre. When you use it, you'll know why.

I'd choose the Silver because I often change coils as conditions warrant. However, as mentioned, the Compadre is an excellent detector at a low price and certainly makes a good back up if you move up after a bit. My two bits.

Hoosier, after reading your specifications, and Nick and Bill's posts... Get the Compadre!

Lowest investment for a quality machine.
Lifetime warranty.
Will pay for itself.
Fun to use.
EZ to use.
Great backup, loaner, good for kids, wife, friend...

They are both excellent MD's.

I would go for the Compadre.

The Compadre is the under estimated MD that can do it all.

Depth is a little less than the Silver but, any ground issues and the

situation is reversed.

I think the Compadre is a better all around MD than the Silver.

But the Silver is great MD in it's element. Can not go wrong.

HH,

Thanks everyone for their two cents. It sounds like the Compadre wins. I quess I will pull the trigger today and I will post back after my vacation with my first results, if there are any...
